Adjustment of Status from TN Visa

HI there,

 

I am a Canadian citizen currently working/staying in the US with a TN Visa. My fiancé is American and we have been living together for a year and eight months. We also plan on getting married soon. My TN visa expires in November 2022. What options do I have to obtain a green card? I cannot decide which route to take and what forms to use.

1. Get  your company to sponsor you through PERM - I140 - I485.

2. Get married and adjust status using I-130.

Family based adjustment is usually (a lot) faster.

Do I need a lawyer or is the paperwork straightforward for me to do on my own?

For Option 1, your company will need a lawyer.

For Option 2, you can do it yourself, it's pretty straight forward.
