Interview scheduled a couple of days after moving to a different state

Hello!

I have this situation. I just moved to another state having my n400 pending for less than three months. After moving I was going to notify USCIS about my current address (still don't have permanent one though) within 10 days as law requires. On third day after I landed on the new state I got change of status online: Interview scheduled, notice sent. I was able to download the pdf version of the notice through my USCIS account and see the date. It's in one month!!

I am upset now, and just afraid of missing something in this situation. I have a question (probably stupid). I guess that notifying USCIS about change of state is the only option here.

How bad possibly it will delay the case in this time?

Is there any chance that no matter whether I send my new address (probably multiple times since I am still in search of permanent one) the interview will still remain in my old state?

Appreciate any suggestions in advance!

I don't know exactly what to say. But if I were you, id set up an info pass appointment at the office you likely will end up having your interview at or at least get Tier 2 officer on the phone and explain to them the situation you're in. The reason why i suggest this is that I moved having a pending case and 4 weeks after notifying uscis my address still hasn't been updated online. You don't want this to turn in to a "no show" assuming they will handle it correctly.

Thank you for your reply! How did you know that your address hasn't been updated? From what I remember, when I updated my address online last time it showed up immediately. Maybe I remember it wrong

Whenever I check my online account, it shows my old address.

Thank you! I will be keeping my eye on it and will be ready to call them. I was thinking about postponing my moving, since I am still have a job in my first state till the end of September. But it looks like much more complicated scenario since I have to find new place to live for this time.

Just an update about the situation. I talked to the officer about it and she said that I still can have interview in my old state no matter that I reported change of address (they haven't processed it yet though). The reason is that I still belong to the old state jurisdiction for 90 more days since moving (if I got it correctly). So according to her I have a choice in which state to have my interview. I didn't expect it, I thought that the officer would just cancel my interview as it is usually written everywhere about similar cases. Now something to think about.

I would DEFINITELY consider just going back for the interview (especially if they do Oath the same day) Once the interview and oath are completed, you will never have to worry about it again. If you change your office, you will basically get put back in line to wait for an interview.

Thank you for your reply! I know it is very tempting even though it is troublesome with flights and everything.

Such a good point! I even forgot to ask about the possibility of same day oath (or maybe I missed it). But she said it is very likely for me to have an oath in my new state and that it might take some time since officer's decision will be only a recommendation and an important factor for the case. Now I am concerned about whether it was just standard official explanation or something particular about my case :(

Yes, it is a pain, but given how long things are taking at USCIS right now, I'd fly back for it if it was me.

Thank you! Seriously considering it. It sounds unbelievable even. The officer said that there is no need to do anything else if I decide to go to the scheduled interview. If I decide to cancel it and get it moved to a new office I have to call back and explain why.

New update. I just bought flight and today morning got status update: interview canceled. Seriously, after I was reassured by the CIS officer that it won't be! There is a short pdf notice on my account saying: the interview descheduled "due to unforeseen circumstances, sorry for inconvenience, you should wait for further notice". Is this standard notice an applicant gets after canceling the interview due to relocation? Or it is something else? I am very confused now :(

You cannot predict what the agency decides, so be patient, and if possible, cancel the ticket. You are now in a much better place--yes, with the canceled interview. It could have been an unwanted scenario: for example, you travel, go to the interview and still have it canceled being physically present at the interview--waste of time and $. Hope you get your interview rescheduled soon.

P.S. you don't necessarily get put back in line when changing field offices, i'm not 100% sure, but they still tend to process petitions in order-- could be less time, could me longer, depending on thow busy the new office is.

Yes, agree that it might have been worse in this regard, but why one agent says that they won't cancel it, they cancel it. And what is that weird, confusing wording: unforeseen circumstances, while they might just clearly refer to change of residency. That's why I am confused even more than frustrated and wondering maybe there is a different reason for the cancelation.

Hello everyone!

It's been almost half a year since my interview got canceled because of relocation to another state. My status is still "Interview cancelled". My question is is there anything I can do? Is it worth calling USCIS and ask about the case? I remember it was possible to call a representative of the state, but is it even an option for n-400? I would appreciate any thoughts.
