I know they tried to include OFWs in that and it caused an uproar. I wonder what will come of it. We plan to retire there. Not one thing costs much to get done but in the end you are nickel and dimed to death.

And, the lost value of your time.

Finally done.

Ok thanks for the clarification. So I will lose it, but I can get it back through this process?  How would the Philippines know I became a citizen of the US if I never tell them?  Just curious.

Well, one way they could find out is if you renewed a Philippine passport at a consulate in the US. Part of the requirements is proving you are legally residing in the US. So it would quickly become obvious if you had already become a US citizen at the time.

Eventually you'll need to renew your RP passport and on the form you'll be asked if you acquired other citizenship.  If you lie on the form and you're in the US for a long time they'll want to see your green card.  If you no longer have one they will know.  They want their $50 even though technically you don't lose your RP citizenship by naturalizing in the US.

It's just easier to reacquire and then get a new RP passport.

FYI. With the DC Embassy not taking new dual citizenship applications since June 18th we tried Chicago as it’s actually an easier drive for us.

their system is a bit different than the embassy. They ask that you just PDF everything and email it for a pre-approval.  Sent that in mid August and wife got an email with appointment for end of September for the oath.  Pretty quick but unfortunately she’s in Vegas on a girls trip the day of oath so we had to ask to reschedule.  They only do them Tuesday and Thursday with passport appointment M,W,F.  If you need both plan an overnight stay.

Of course, I'm surprised they don't do the oath taking on Monday PM only and the passports on Monday AM only.  Especially due to the number of Monday Holidays.

Tere used to be no harm, but last year the Philippine government came out with a requirement that all dual citizens must pay for PhilHealth, sending my wife into panic and regretting the move.  Nothing has been enforced on it though, although right now there are not many traveling.

I'd dare to speculate that probably half the Filipinos living in the Philippines aren't paying their PhilHealth.  Not sure how they could ever enforce any such mandate on overseas Filipinos.

At the airport is the only way I can see them doing so.  We wouldn’t see it now though, due to the travel restrictions.

My wife renewed her passport when she overstayed (by Years) was never an issue

I see. When I renewed my passport last June, the officer specifically looked for my US visa and NOAs related to my AOS.

Although I looked again at the PH Embassy's passport renewal requirements and you are correct - the website states that, for passport renewal, they are only looking for proof that you are still a Filipino citizen: https://philippineembassy-usa.org/e-passport-renewal/

*** With the fine print that says the consular officer may ask the applicants for more documents at their discretion.
