Hello!

I have been going through married based AOS from F-1. We filed in March, 2021 and already had biometrics in July.

After the biometrics, Status(fingerprints were taken) has been the same for over a month now, and Today I received an Pink letter from USCIS for the I-693 Medical Exam Deficiency Notice. I know there is nothing we need to do at this point until the interview appointment,

But Is this letter different from RFEs?

The date they sent out this was August 19th, and My case status has not changed ever since biometrics in July. I am just curious if I will receive another RFEs, or If they completed the review and possibly change the status to Interview is Ready to be scheduled, other than sending me another RFEs.

I know it’s a confusing question, but I am curious if those who got this letter didn’t receive any other RFEs.

Thank you, and Good luck to you all!

It's different from a RFE. Some people get the medical letter, some don't. Even some who for sure don't have to do it at all sometimes get it. I personally wouldn't do the medical now unless they told you in the letter to do so and send it in by a certain time. The AOS approval without interview was a big thing when Covid started and they closed the offices for in person appointments but not so much anymore. So by doing the medical now and send it in you might risk that it's outdated by the time of your interview and then have to do it again.

Thank you for your answers! I understand, but what I was actually asking was,

On that letter, it shows that they did an initial review, but I didn’t get any RFEs. So I was curious if that means everything else was reviewed okay except the medical form and I will soon to have the interview scheduled, or since it’s different from the RFEs that ask for more evidence like income proof, etc, I will receive another letter as I didn’t get any status changed

Like I said it's different. You can get a RFE till you got the final approval notice even after the Interview.

Okay! Thank you so much!

I hope your cases are going well too!

Was just about to edit my former post. It's unfortunately no indication of where you are in the process. That's what you're specifically asking for I think. But with any luck you're getting closer to the end 😊

Read what the letter says, things may have changed (it used to say to not mail anything in right now, but check if it still does). For employment based adjustment of status they want you to send the medical "over night", but it's probably different with marriage based as you're required to have an interview anyway (though it seems some had it waived due to the pandemic/backlogs).

And this is how they like it nowadays since the medical is now valid for 4 years, ie they want the i-693 to be sent in together with the actual AOS package, in case anyone is filing and thinking of waiting until the interview:

"If you are applying for adjustment of status to that of a lawful permanent resident with USCIS (also known as applying for a Green Card), please file Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, together with Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status."

That is only temporary. I.e. for when the I-485 decision is on or before September 30, 2021https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-8-part-b-chapter-4

Effective August 12, 2021, USCIS is temporarily extending the validity period of an otherwise valid Form I-693 in cases where:

  • The civil surgeon’s signature on Form I-693 is dated no more than 60 days before the applicant files Form I-485;

  • No more than 4 years have passed since the date of the civil surgeon’s signature; and

  • The decision on Form I-485 is issued on or before September 30, 2021.

So it'll be valid for 2 years if the I-485 decision is after that date.
