I hate folding fitted sheets.

Fortunately my wife is very good at it.

Ctrl+F is your friend. What search terms could we think of beyond the ones I used? We could do this as a team effort. :D

Actually the "big" bill is really short and the "little" bill is really long. Typical!

IDK, because I am not sure what to search for.  The last time I went thru a HB (over a year ago, related to covid), I was dismayed to find so much money being spent on janitorial supplies, other countries, etc. as well as other things that had NOTHING to do with the bill, so I am reluctant to just start reading.

CDC Director wants the agency to take on firearm violence for the first time in decades: 'I'm not here about gun control'

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the director of the Centers for Disease Control, wants her agency to establish gun violence as an urgent public health crisis. "Now is the time - it's pedal to the metal time," she told CNN in a new interview.

"The scope of the problem is just bigger than we're even hearing about, and when your heart wrenches every day you turn on the news, you're only hearing the tip of the iceberg," Walensky said.

I don't have an issue with the project if they get real about it.  Forget anything about gun control.  Use Chicago as a test case, where gun control does not work.  Get into mental health issues that cause the gun violence there and be honest about it.  Broken families, gang culture, drug culture, etc.  Those are all mental health issues that lead youth into a life of crime.  Poverty contributes but don't blame all those mental issues on poverty.

I agree wholeheartedly.  Unlike some who are swimming in WP here in CEHST,  I rose from the depths of poverty as a child, and am doing quite well, mentally.  And physically.  And intellectually.  It's amazing what heights one can rise to when one has the desire and integrity to do so.  To accept less in life is the very definition of laziness.

It's a good thing the CDC can't prosecute for people posting false and misleading public health data. Some of yall are in such complete denial,  yall would be on death row by now.

The bell on my desk rang yesterday but I ignored it. There really isn't much I can add, Charles, laylalex and LIBrty4all did the groundwork and looked in the right places, as far as I can tell. Going to primary sources like the US Code and pending legislation is the best way to determine whether something is horsefeathers or not, at least in this realm.

The bill is long, but it's drafted in plain English rather than legalese. I'm not going to pretend I read all of it, but as was said above, CTRL-F is your friend, and the table of contents is a good place to start to consider where such a provision might be stashed. I came up with nada, zip, zilch (sorry for that bit of legalese).

I ran the searches mentioned earlier in this thread and came to the same conclusions. 18 USC § 1038 is inapplicable here; if it were, there would be an explicit reference in the text of the bill, and there is none. Further, I cross-referenced the statutes mentioned in 1038 to the bill and found nothing.

In addition, I performed a search for "penalty" in the bill. Penalties mentioned refer only to the transportation of horses, mislabelling items as being made in the USA when they were not, blocking railroad crossings, penalties for repeat DUI offenders, and tweaks to existing legislation concerned with the application of fines incurred relating to bridges in the National Highway System.

Moreover, use common sense. It's a sense which seems to become rarer every year. An abridgement of the First Amendment is a highly contentious matter, teeing up a constitutional challenge in the courts. Why would a bill which has passed the Senate with significant Republican support, including from the Senate Minority Leader, get this far without this tidbit being screamed from every parapet? Has someone put peyote in Mitch McConnell's bourbon? Is Thom Tillis sharing a bong with Bernie Sanders? Get real. They would have killz0red this bill, and Joe Manchin would have been on their side, along with a fair few other Democrats.

In the absence of any information to the contrary, maven labels the claim that a person may be subject to a civil or criminal penalty for speaking out against the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as FALSE. If anyone can point me in the direction of information that disproves my admittedly very brief research into this issue, I am open to changing my mind.

Just make sure you leave the address of your jail should the rules change.  I'll visit and bring you some gatorade and ho-hos.

Wouldn't they have to look inside their own agency first?
