Hello!

My mom petition me for IR2 visa, since I'm about to turn 21 pretty soon. The thing is, I'm still studying here in the Philippines, and I decided to finish my college here.

My questions are:

What are the rules to maintain, so I will not lose my IR2 visa?

Do I have to wait until I received my green card and I'm allowed to go back to the Philippines?

Do I have to go back every year to the US? If yes, how long should I stay?

Thank you so much!

Hello!

I still have four years left. After I finished College, I'm planning to stay for good in the US.

Thank you!

Ok, that’s going to be pretty tricky. You’re probably going to have to apply for a couple of consecutive re-entry permits after you get your green card. You’re going to run into trouble trying to keep a green card by touching down once a year for four years, that is clearly not residing in the US as required. See this for info https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/guides/B5en.pdf

as an aside, with that much studying still to go imo a US qualification really should be considered instead, it’s going to stand you in better stead for the job market.
