My fiance and I applied for a k-1 visa in 2020 while living in UAE - I was not in the military at that time. In 2020 I lost my job due to covid so my income for 2020 only shows 8,000$. In 2021 I joined the USAF and im now active duty in tech school. My salary up to this point is only around 9,000$ on my LES. I had a job prior to this which from that would be around 7,000 so combined I’m around 15,000 (give or take) for 2021 so far. My question is: DO YOU THINK ILL NEED A JOINT SPONSOR GIVEN MY INCOME LAST YEAR WAS ONLY 7,000 however this current year I’m now Active Duty - please any help would be helpful. Our embassy interview in Abu Dhabi is coming up mid September.

I think you misunderstand what current annual salary is:  In your case, take the gross total of all pay and benefits per month as listed on your CURRENT LES.  Then, multiply that by 12.  That is your current annual income.

LATEST total Monthly pay and allowances X 12 = current annual income.

What is your AFSC and which Tech school?

@Crazy Cat I’m Air Traffic Control @ Keesler.

So you don’t think I’ll need a joint sponsor then?

It depends on your household size and your CURRENT annual salary.  If it above the requirements for consideration, I doubt you need a joint sponsor.

I wanted to go to Keesler for radio repair when I graduated from Basic.  Instead, I spent about 8 months at Chanute AFB, IL for missile maintenance.  Good luck.

Welcome to the Gulf Coast 😊 we're always joking that depending on which gate you enter Keesler you can see the gulf and hear the angels singing. that's how nice this base is 😂

If you're still below the requirements after you did the math like @Crazy Cat said then yes, you'll need a joint sponsor.

Sorry I am definitely hijacking this post but how do you know that it is gross income? I have seen it everywhere but I would like to know where I can find the information too!
