The Pentagon said something like 12 dead and 15 wounded.  My wife got a text message from her commander tonight that all leaves and passes are cancelled, and that 40 wounded from Kabul will be arriving in 7 hours from now for the OR here in Germany at the Army hospital. My wife is the Air Force nurse who will be prepping them for surgery. We also have thousands of Afghan evacuees in tents and hangers here on Ramstein Air Base, Germany. She volunteered to take care of them as well earlier this week

Surely you are not insinuating that our government and our American media would lie to us, are you?

And tell her many of us back here at home thank her for her service and compassion!!

Maybe the 12 dead/15 wounded were Americans and the remainder were foreigners.

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Not to worry.  #2 in charge is Kamala Harris, and # 3 in line is Nancy Pelosi.

We're covered.

Thanks... The flight was delayed. Haven't heard from my wife since 10AM, and it is 3PM now. They were expecting the wounded at about 10AM. I saw 2 U.S. ambulance buses heading to the Army hospital earlier, so this may have been some of them. It is a 10 minute journey from the airbase to the hospital

The flight from Kabul was delayed. The wounded arrived at the hospital at 11:00 a.m. local time, here in Germany, 5 a.m. EST. Men, women, children. U.S. military and Afghan civilian. Bullet and shrapnel wounds. Same Day Surgery, where Josephine works, had all their surgeries cancelled. All nurses and techs from Same Day Surgery assisted the overwhelmed ICU. One soldier who was wounded started to fail, and was rushed to the OR. Total chaos in the ICU, where normally it is very quiet. Not quiet in ICU today.
