Hi everyone, I have a question for you!! So I am due to file the I-751 on 9/17/2021which my husband's 2 year visa expires on 12/16/2021. Due to the delay in processing times (according to the USCIS website) will he be provided an extension letter due to his expiration date is in December? Also will I need to apply for the extension or will a letter be sent automatically?  Will the extension allow him to still travel out of the country or would he have to wait until his 10 year card is approved?

For the I-751, your husband is both the petitioner and the beneficiary. Once he files a proper I-751 package, he will be sent the extension letter automatically.  The extension letter will extend the expiration date on his card for 18 months.  He must use the "expired" card along with the extension letter to re-enter the US. He can travel.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

When you apply for I-751, you will be issued with an 18 month extension. It will be automatic.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Just note the extension letters are now 24 months. Went into effect 2 weeks ago.
