It's best to wait until you AOS to apply for your EAD. on the average it takes about 3 months to receive your EAD card. you are fortunate to have a profession that is high in demand in many parts of the USA. while waiting for your EAD card, you can use the time to study for the board exam in the state where you'll be residing and adjust to life her in the USA.

best of luck with your new life here.

You will need an EAD to work legally in the U.S.

If you come through JFK as your POE (point of entry) you can get a temp 90 day EAD stamp allowing you to work. That is basically the only POE giving out the stamp.

You CAN apply for an EAD before you file AOS (your green card) but there is little point as it would only be valid untill the end of your I-94 date (which will be 90 days after you enter the country), and it takes about 90 days for the EAD to be issued, so you'd spend all that money and probably wouldn't have the EAD untill after it has already expired.

Your best idea would be to get married ASAP and apply for you AOS including an EAD application at which point it will take about 90 days to issue and will be good for 1 year while you wait for your green card.

Like someone else said earlier in the thread, perhaps you could use that time to study for your state board exams.

Good luck!
