I have a question , I was looking on the USCIS website and they are say you should send your medical with the AOS forms . I am waiting to have a medical for a few weeks because the cost is $1000 and we don't have have $1000 lying around and my husband's medical won't cover it , so, is it better to wait for the medical or mail my AOS now and wait for the RFE ? My I-130 was filed online on Friday .

Thank you

Not sure how you arrived in the US, but if you came on a K1 visa, you would use your DS-3025 with the AOS, as your medical exam before you arrived would have the Vaccination records they need ( DS-3025). You can wait for the medical, and they should RFE you for it when they need it, but there is a risk they will outright deny the petition because they don't have the medical in there. My other advice is to shop around for a USCIS certified doctor. 1000 dollars is a complete hose job. I have heard 300-500 max. You can get it done at any doctor certified to do it. For 1000 dollars you could fly round trip just about anywhere in the US, and pay the 300 for the medical, and still be way under 1000 dollars.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

I didn't arrive on a k1 , my concern is that since they're now saying we should send the medical with the AOS they may just deny because they're so backlogged . I have shopped around was quoted between 500- 800 which didn't include any blood work x-rays and vaccines.

Wow, prices have gotten a little out of control. I'm going to try a few calls myself. If the exam doesn't include the xray or vaccines, you may want to see if you can at least get the vaccinations covered thru the husbands insurance, they should cover required vaccinations like the ones required, and then they are done for the medical exam.

I just called the 1 of the 2 places that does exams here in Las Vegas, NV, and it is a 2 visit thing. First visit for the exam and blood work and x-rays, then you come back for any required vaccinations. Cost was only 299.99. Includes the exam and x-ray, and vaccinations you need are of course extra, but the prices they quoted seemed in line with CVS and Walgreens prices. Here is a link to their website, you can call and verify yourself. You may want to plan a trip to Vegas, get everything done, and a vacation at the same time for less than a 1000.

That sounds like it should work out great. Glad I could help. Another thought is you may want to check with your local health department. They offer the vaccinations like Tdap, Mumps, rubella, flu shot if needed also. Usually for free or at a greatly reduced cost. Then when you come for the exam, if you have the vaccinations done, it will show in your lab tests ( Also you will have documented proof) and you wont have to pay higher prices for any vaccinations you need.

I think it always says that on the website! We filed without sending the medical because we didn't have the money at the time as well and because we were worried the validity of that medical form could expire before we get approved. We received an RFE or a notice rather, asking us to bring it to the interview. I'm doing my medicals now (done with the first half of it) and the total cost is $450 with nothing more. I don't think it should be $1000. If you or your spouse have any insurance, it should cover your immunizations if that's what's raising the prices since they're under essential protective care. Good luck!

I'm doing my medicals now and it all depends on how old are you and which season we're in just for the flu season.

I did get all these vaccines back in my home country but I have no record of them, so I had to get the required vaccines all over again. I only needed 3 vaccines only.

- MMR

- Varicella

- Tdap

That's all that's needed for someone who's older than 17/18 years old and younger than 60/65. You also need the flu shot if you're doing your medicals in that flu seasons (October to March). Most if not all insurance policies cover these immunizations as they're essential minimum protection coverage (which was added under Obama Care) So they should be COMPLETELY FREE! The civil surgeon visit itself is self-pay and won't be covered by an insurance. However if you get the vaccines done in a pharmacy, or with the civil surgeon using your insurance that should cut the cost dramatically. I could have done these medicals for $200 but I did it for $450 for the convenience of their availability in the weekend and being close to us so I didn't need to take any time off or to drive to them! They also include the X-ray in that base price.

Good luck!

You can send it later if you want: https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-8-part-b-chapter-4

Timing of the Submission of the Medical Examination Report

Applicants may submit the Form I-693 medical examination report to USCIS:

  • Concurrently with the immigration benefit application; or

  • At any time after filing the immigration benefit application but before USCIS finalizes adjudication of that application. If not submitted simultaneously with the immigration benefit application, applicants may bring the medical examination report to an interview or wait until USCIS issues an RFE requesting the medical examination report.

The courtesy letter they send clearly says: "DO NOT MAIL DOCUMENTS AT THIS TIME"

Thank you. The person attached a screenshot of the USCIS website regarding the medical form and being confused as it looks like it's required with the application; so I advised that it always says that on the USCIS website but it can be sent letter (if asked for) or taken to the interview.

Still not required at the time of filing. The official USCIS info I quoted is still "Current as of August 12, 2021" https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-8-part-b-chapter-4
