WASHINGTON, Aug 20 (Reuters) - The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials.

 

Though federal officials have arrested more than 570 alleged participants, the FBI at this point believes the violence was not centrally coordinated by far-right groups or prominent supporters of then-President Donald Trump, according to the sources, who have been either directly involved in or briefed regularly on the wide-ranging investigations.

 

"Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases," said a former senior law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation. "Then you have five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized. But there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages."

People who did no harm on 6 Jan are still in jail.

 

People who burned buildings and destroyed government property last year in Portland and Seattle and DC were arrested and released.  Some more than once.

Honestly this is good news and should be treated as such. It doesn't change the fact that the attack happened, and involved hundreds of people. I watched it live, as I'm sure many of you did. What caused the 5% of smaller groups, and the 95% of individuals to think this was a good idea? Why should these crimes not be prosecuted? It's not a matter of "they didn't do it that time in that other place, so they shouldn't pursue charges here." That's not how things work. They don't cancel each other out.

I never saw you say one word against the rioters, looters, and thugs in Portland and Seattle and DC last year.  Why the sudden pretense of caring now?

These people are being punished. A vast majority of them have been charged with nothing more than misdemeanor trespassing yet they have been held for 6+ months in solitary confinement with no bail and no trial. Compare that to antifa/blm rioters who if they are even arrested are immediately bailed out by DNC operatives.
