So, I posted yesterday a quick update but here are the details. My fiance's visa was approved yesterday after he returned to the embassy and presented the additional information requested of him in the 221(g) letter issued by the consulate upon the conclusion of his initial interview on 6/29/07. The letter requested a letter from me detailing the circumstances of how we met, what we had in common and "what will happen if he doesn't get a visa" (I'm still #######? about that one  ) AND they wanted more pictures and proof of communication (the proof which they never looked at the first time).

My fiance had everything they asked by Monday 7/2/07, and he called the embassy to set-up a time for him to bring in this 'additional' evidence. Because the 3rd and the 4th was a holiday, he was told the earliest next appointment time available was Friday 7/6/07 at 9:30a.m.

At the appointed time, my fiance was there, with all the documents. He presented them and was told to wait while the CO looked them over. He waited a half hour or so, at which time he was told that the CO "had to leave for a short while, but he did look over the papers presented". My fiance was asked to come back in an hour and he would be given the CO's decision at that time. So that is what my man did....he left and came back an hour later. The CO was there and said that the visa was approved. My fiance signed the "I'll marry w/in 90 days of entering the US" statement and he was asked to wait for the visa. After about another hour of waiting (by this time he was the only person remaining) the lady who initially took his papers (not the CO) told him that it looks like the visa will not be ready that afternoon, but it will be ready monday. She told my fiance to come back Monday, between 1-4p.m. to pick up his passport w/ the visa in it. :)

So there it is....no additional questions or any difficulties. But, given the fright we received upon the initial interview, I will not be completely satisfied until he calls me to tell me he has the "visa in [his] hand"!

We've reserved a ticket, and will be buying in as soon as the visa is issued.

Just an FYI....for anyone wondering how quickly the DOS database is updated when changes occur to a visa application file. I called the DOS# after I got off the phone w/ my fiance, as soon as I knew that all was good, and inquired about the case status. (This was roughly about an hour after he was told the visa had been approved.) I gave the visa specialist lady the standard info, and she immediately told me that my fiancee's visa was approved as of that day, but that she did not see "visa issued" yet. (Of course not, because my man will pick up the visa monday. I presume the visa issued date will be updated then.) I told her thank you very much! and hung up. So in this 'electronic' age....as soon as any updates are made to an applicant's file....the DOS here on the mainland knows it. :)

Good luck everyone!

Wow, Paula ....again, Congratulations ! Thank you so much for posting this information. I, for one, appreciate it .

I am happy all turned out well this time. Had they been doing their job in the first place, there would have been no time wasted not only for you and your fiance, but for the Embassy, as well. Im happy this phase is over with for you. God is good!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
