I am currently in the process of filing AOS for my 9yo son. My husband did the petition online a week ago. My question is, will he be granted a SSN before the petition is approved as I'm doing his filing concurrently. He's adjusting from a B2 overstay

EAD

For a 9yo??? I thought I'd be doing the EAD for ssn purposes, I didn't know he'd get an actual EAD since he's a minor. I just wanted to know if they would proceed in processing anything before the petition gets approved.

Did you apply for EAD?

To be honest, I'm not sure if I should do the EAD form for him? Y? Because I saw the same ssn option on the new edition of the i485 form when reviewing it. I haven't submitted the documents as yet however I did fill his EAD form out just in case.

If you're not concerned about when he gets the SSN, then EAD is not needed as the GC will make him eligible.

YMMV

So assuming the ssn option on the I485 wouldn't make him eligible without the EAD form for SSN then. I'm only asking because I want to ensure I am doing the correct thing

I485 does, so you are concerned about nothing.   Filing the i765 is no harm, no foul.  A matter of choice

YMMV

EAD form is optional but I still recommend to submit it. EAD is a form of ID and if his I-765 is approved before I-485 then it results in SSN being issued after I-765 approval.

I also recommend to submit I-131. Both I-765 and I-131 are free: https://www.uscis.gov/i-485

Filing Forms I-765 and I-131 with Form I-485

If you submit Form I-485 and pay the required fee, you do not have to pay an additional fee to also file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, and/or Form I-131, Application for Travel Document, for advance parole. You may submit these forms together. If you choose not to file Form I-765 and/or Form I-131 with your Form I-485, then you must submit a copy of your I-797C, Notice of Action, (also known as your receipt) as evidence that you filed Form I-485.

I recently submitted my AOS application but didn't submit my i131 form. I'm thinking of doing so with a copy of my i797 receipt when putting in the docs for my son. Even thought my i485 status states 'case is ready to be scheduled for interview' I'll still submit it as I don't know how close or far an interview will be scheduled for me.
