Question about proof of wedding

Hopefully this is the final question I ask as I prepare for my interview.

I just wanted to ask about interview questions about a courthouse wedding. That's where we married and we just want to make sure I am prepared for any possible questions about why that was the route if asked. We did not include any pictures from the ceremony as we only have one. We married with the intention of being together and starting our lives together and plan on doing it properly once we are together.

Does anyone have experience of questions asked about this? We also had no witnesses at the ceremony as it was not required.

Thanks

The proof is your marriage certificate. Do you have it? Photos are good but is not the real proof.

Yes we have it. I think we are worried that if the question about the ceremony is asked, they won't see it sufficient?

You are married, so the courthouse wedding obviously is sufficient.

I did the K-1, and during my visa interview I was asked about our wedding plans. I said we were just planning to do a courthouse wedding because the visa process and international move were stressful enough and we simply did not have the time and energy to plan for a huge wedding. The officer said she completely understood and probably would do the same, and that she hoped it would still be a special day for us.

At my AOS interview, we were asked about how we got married. My husband said, "at the courthouse, quick and easy". The officer laughed and moved on to the next question.

It really is no big deal. You got married the way that worked best for you. Just answer any questions they may ask, and don't stress about it.

(Just to add: in some countries/cultures it would be very unusual to have a simple courthouse wedding, and in those cases it might cause issues. But your profile says you are from England, so in your case it is not an issue.)

The truth is sufficient. Plenty of people have a courthouse or justice of the peace marriage/ceremony when it comes to immigration. Don’t think too much into it. Good luck!

Not a problem for England, not even a little bit.

We did a K-1, so married here, and we eloped.  Our AOS officer wanted to see wedding pics, which were selfies.  Your marriage certificate is all you need regarding the wedding itself.  Good luck!

London is not going to care about your ceremony or lack of one and I can’t think of a time they even asked this question. The only question I can think of that even requires thought is “why do you choose to live in the US instead of the UK?”  There is no wrong answer. You could say “My wife thinks UK refrigerators are too small”. One of my favorite London interview tales was a guy fiancé who was asked “How many times have you visited the US?” His answer, “I dunno, LOTS.” No problem with that.  It’s just a short chat standing at one of the counter windows.

Prepare for your interview by knowing what paperwork to bring and how you’re getting there. The questions are a doddle.
