Because we did tradition ceremony which is for both families to know each other... a mail will send to your petitioner

It wasn’t considered an engagement party? Or is that considered a wedding party? I thought engagement parties were proof of a relationship.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Why did the CO say you were married? How did USCIS contact you? What will you do next? Thank you for the prayers and well wishes.

This happens often in Nigeria

it is from the photos the USC sent

often an engagement party looks (or is) marriage

so, the case is too married for K1

you are suppose to create your own thread when asking a question

as then it can best to answered by VJ members with experience

and no ,  she can not come here for a marriage certificate

even if she got a tourist visa,  the officer at POE would refuse entry to USA

now, you go to Nigeria and marry

I’ll admit that I am new to all of this and a bit confused. So, we had an engagement party (walimah) with her family present. Is Kaypei’s situation specific to his country?

Yes,   as that is also how they do marriage in many tribes in Nigeria

in Morocco ,  we sign documents in  front of judge to marry and our celebrations are done after the court

Engagement party is not a marriage in Morocco

i had one 2 weeks before i completed and signed the marriage papers

and typically an engagement party in Morocco is women with women while man celebrates engagement with his friends

this may not be the case if the family needs to meet the prospective groom or bride to approve

but i had engagement party with just women and lots of good food

Ok, I see. So, that country-specific. Yes, we, too, had a nice engagement party. The food was so delicious. Some of the best I’ve had.

you can see from the memo i sent to your messages that it takes a lot more than just a party to marry in Morocco

the USC has to go to several cities for documents and then translate and copy them 6 times for both parties

and then be interviewed by police and judge to submit documents for approval for a  marriage certificate

Nigeria the family prepares for ceremony and when couple dress in clothes of the same color ,  they can be married (or not depending on tribe)

but in the past many from Nigeria have married to satisify family but not registered a marriage for a certificate thinking a K1 is faster

and immigration turns these away as photos show "probable"  marriage according to customs of the country

Thank you for that information. I am trying to learn as much as I can about the process. I just want to be as knowledgeable as possible. So many things have taken me by surprise in the last year or so.

I did have another question. I have been following the CEAC website to check the status; it still says “refused.” My question is how long after they make a decision do they update the website? I assume that’s about the only place to check for any glimmer of news.

Her city is Fes. That is not good news. I don’t even want to tell her about this. She is so anxious. It will only increase her anxiety.
