Hello all, first post here:D

Haven't been able to find an answer to this on the internet. I'm a US citizen, fiance is in Morocco. As the title says, I'm curious if registering our marriage in her country would cause any issues down the line for K1 approval. I don't know, but I'm concerned if whatever agency saw that we were married in a foreign country, they might cancel our K1 and force us to do a CR-1, setting us back to square one after months of waiting. Does anyone know if this could cause an issue? The primary reason my fiance wants to do this is to eventually give our kids Moroccan citizenship, but if push comes to shove I suppose we could always get married their in a couple years.

Also, from what I've been reading/hearing is that K1's as of 2021 are so backlogged, that you're better off just doing a CR-1 given the wait time. I will do whatever it takes, but my only priority is to bring my fiance to the US as soon as possible to start our life together.

This is all new to me, and I'm still learning a ton, sorry if this has been asked a million times!

K1 is for Fiancees

You are married. Well assuming you are, confusingly worded.

if you marry in Morocco,  you must do CR1

and even if you do not register (as you put it ) and have one thru signing the documents,  you must do CR1/  hiding something of this nature would be considered lying on your petition with a lifetime bar

on the CR1 she could return to Morocco in before the last 3 months of delivery and have babies there giving them both US and Moroccan citizenship

i don't recommend this as i stood out hospital in Agadir while niece gave birth

PLEASE,  if you have applied or will apply,  do a timeline

I absolutely do not plan on lying/concealing anything. I'm not opposed to the CR1, it's just the long wait I'm concerned about. Do you think now with covid and backlogs, the shorter timeline advantage of K1 is no longer present?

Really? What kind of fraud?

Morocco is considered a high fraud country

For immigration , it is high fraud as people in Morocco shop for a green card by meeting online and marrying a USC

you can google this question "why is morocco considered a high fraud country ?"   for other reasons other than marriage fraud and see the scams and why the USA considers it high fraud

Every couple has their own priorities, and each couple must decide which visa is better for their situation.  But I think the CR-1 is far superior....especially for high fraud countries.

K-1
    More expensive than CR-1
Requires Adjustment of Status after marriage (expensive and requires a lot of paperwork)
Spouse can not leave the US until she/he receives approved Advance Parole (approx 6-8 months)
Spouse can not work until she/he receives EAD (approx 6-8 months)
Some people have had problems with driver licenses, Social Security cards, leases, bank account during this period
Spouse will not receive Green Card for many months after Adjustment of Status is filed.
A denied K-1 is sent back to USCIS to expire

CR-1
    Less expensive than K-1
    No Adjustment of Status(I-485, I-131, I-765) required.
Spouse can immediately travel outside the US
Spouse is authorized to work immediately upon arrival.
Spouse receives Social Security Card and Green Card within 2 or 3 weeks after entering the US
Opening a bank account, getting a driver's license, etc. are very easily accomplished with GC, SS card, and passport.

Spouse has legal permanent Resident status IMMEDIATELY upon entry to US.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

no advantage to K1 these days

back in 2009 i applied in July and interview was in november

but now,  K1 is taking as long as a CR1 from petition to interview

and getting that CR1 I 551 stamp on the passport allowing her to travel to Morocco if she has family emergency is well worth it

K1 is a lot more expensive in the long run as AOS fees are $1225 after marriage here

and if you can travel and marry there,  it is so important to the Moroccan family

guides to marry on Casa web page / most of the cost is in the translation of your English documents into Arabic

i have the guides if you need them

If the timeline is the same, then it doesn't look like K1 makes much sense. If you could please send me those guides that would be great!!!
