I-693/immigration process driving me crazy....

Hi,

My fiance arrived in the US in January of this year. She performed a medical exam abroad earlier that month. However, she did not receive all required vaccinations. I read that the medical is good for one year. However, I did not receive a copy of the completed I-693 for the Civil surgeon abroad. Rather, it was sent directly to the embassy. My first question is: Is this medical on file with the USCIS or must it be completed again? I contacted civil surgeons here in order to have them sign off on the vaccinations my fiance received in the states. I was told that I have to pay for the entire medical because I have no proof that it was already done. We completed the medical again along with all of the vaccines except some due to my fiancé's pregnancy. The surgeon said he explained to USCIS that the remaining vaccines would be taken once she delivers. I ended up delaying the adjustment of status due to personal reasons. I'm ready to adjust now and I am reading that the medical has to be sent in within sixty days of the surgeon's signature. I thought it was good for one year. Some are saying the medical is still valid if I don't send it in but rather bring it to the interview. Others are saying it is invalid. Do I have to do the medical over again? I know I'm stupid so please go easy on me.

Thank you

Moved from K1 forum to AOS from K1 - OP is done with K1 visa part, now doing AOS

The doctors are saying you need the whole medical because they want to rip you off and make more money rather than just doing missing vaccines and transcribing them. That’s why it’s always recommended to complete vaccinations during their medical abroad in order to avoid this unfortunate situation. The medical you did is on file with USCIS but it’s incomplete because you’re missing vaccines. If you don’t find a civil surgeon to agree to transcribe vaccines only then you will have to do the whole medical again and pay up.

There’s a thread that has info on civil surgeons who won’t rip you off. Keep in mind you can’t post with inquiries on the thread, rather you will need to read through the thread to find a civil surgeon close to you:

Thank you

Your fiance never received a copy of the I-693 because she never had one. That's not the form foreign doctors use for the medical, they use DS forms. She should've received a copy of the vaccination sheet though (DS-3025).

The medical done inside the US can't be more than 60 days older than the date USCIS receives the AOS package.

I would first contact the panel physician that did the medical abroad to request a copy of the DS3025. Even if she didn't receive all the vaccines, the doctor might have gave her a waiver for them, and that would mean that she doesn't need to take any new vaccines here in the US. If the DS3025 is marked complete, it's complete and nothing else is needed.

If your I-693 will be less than 60 days old when you file your I-485, you’re good.

If not (surgeons sig is more than 60 days), I would suggest you go back to the civil surgeon and explain that you missed the 60 day window and haven’t filed your I-485 yet, and ask if it would be possible to reissue the I-693 form to you with an updated signature and date.

Note that per this alert issued Friday, the I-693 is now valid for 4 years (rather than 2), due to COVID delays.

Note that the extension of I-693 validity is temporary and only applies to AOS applications that will be adjudicated on or before Sep 30, 2021.  If your AOS interview will be after that date, assume that your I-693 is only valid for 2 years.

I'm also slowly losing my mind - I have my GC interview scheduled for 09/29, and I do not understand if I need to complete the i-693. I did my medical back home in Dec. 2019 and we submitted the i-485 in Sep. 2020 with the vaccination records. No RFEs. Do I need the i-693 or no?

We had our interview on 8/16. We got an RFE for the I-693, it came like a day or two after the interview notice. I'm not an expert, but in my opinion, if they haven't asked for it, you don't need it. It seems like USCIS is pretty good about being explicit about letting you know if they need something. Also, upthread I mentioned this alert issued Friday, which says the I-693 is now valid for 4 years (rather than 2), due to COVID delays (as long as a decision on the applicant’s Form I-485 is issued on or before Sept. 30, 2021).

At our interview, we turned in the I-693's and our interviewer basically said, "yeah, it's too bad, you didn't really need that since they just made it good for 4 years" ... could have saved some money!

I just saw that! Heh, my interview is literally a day before that alert expires. There's enough time I believe to compile everything... but I feel anxious since my wife is paying for most of our things since, you know, I can't work.
