I am not sure anyone has suggested what you are inferring.  That being said, simply stating she was a healthy 8th grader is also irresponsible when it comes to understanding how this virus works just to push a political narrative.

No one has said such.  Yet the hyperbole, which I have called out a few times, continues.  There is a trend here, if one pays attention.

You assume a political narrative was pushed. Information about this child is out there. She was a healthy and happy child that had just started school where she was exposed. There are thousands of children that are dead, thousands that are left with severe effects from the disease, and another 2000+ hospitalized right now.

So more fear mongering, I get it, everyone who gets Covid19 will die, or have "Long Covid".  As you say, the information is out there about this child's medical conditions as well as how she was exposed, and mask mandates would have prevented everything, not seeming to find it.  The OP article made no mention of any underlying conditions, and a extensive search turned up nothing which is not surprising as her medical history is in fact hers, and is not meant to be public.  Seems political to me.

The question is not why institution X or Y should be viewed skeptically, the question is why are people ignoring science and behaving against their own interests.

And this makes masking , vaccines and testing invalid how?  Is distrust of the government helping the man I described above or his family?  They already lost a wife and mother, do they have to pay a higher price from someone else's disinformation campaign?

This is not the war against Christmas or a battle over a baker making a cake for a gay wedding.  This is a real issue with life and death on the line, and now we see the Delta variant may be putting our children an their future at risk.   If you personally dont want to wear a mask, don't.  If you want to immigrate, or fly or work or go to school and dont think the vaccine is in your interest, use the exception process and file for an exemption, but dont go around telling people that they are sheeple, ignorant, dupes and putting their lives at risk with breathing CO2 from a mask or a virus that is latent in their body when the science specifically proves they are lies.

In my personal life, I find that the people who are the most opposed to the mandates coming from the government come from places where it never worked out well, and they fear that America is headed the same way their previous countries did.  I am referring to people from Cuba, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Colombia, France.  The underlying theme is the same among all of them.  "Why is the government pushing this so hard, when they never have before?"

I am not an anti-vaxxer by any stretch of the imagination.  But I am a pro-choice vaxxer.  Anyone that wants it, get it.  If not, don't.  It really is THAT simple.  Whether your reason for not getting it is religious, personal, fear of government... doesn't matter.  Those who believe the vaccine works, and opt for it, should have no worries, since they are safe and protected from the unvaxxed.  Because the vaccine WORKS.

Are you suggesting that Covid19 has not been pushed as a political narrative by the mainstream media as well as those on the Left and the Right (particularly those on the Left and those advocating more government intrusion into our lives)?  Life is full of risks, people are capable of making their own choices and don't need the government living their lives for them.

Are you suggesting that the risks of masking and vaccines are too high compared to the cost of doing nothing?

All of the so called "mandates" that I have seen from government or employers or schools include provisions for vaccine exemptions.  So the protestations are just that.  I am glad you agree the vaccine works.

I am suggesting there are a lot of studies out there that show masking, especially children can be detrimental.  There are also studies that show a mask worn properly only stops approximately 20% of expelled material including the various viruses/bacteria people may be harboring particularly if said person is coughing.  As to the vaccines, they are still highly experimental, and many people have a large mistrust of the federal government considering their past misdeeds.  Now the CDC has been all over the place on just about everything Covid related, I expect we will see the recommendation to double mask everyone soon even though the only actual cause/effect study on the effectiveness of mask wearing is purely observational, and has very little sufficiency based in real science.

Not everyone wants to share the details of their child’s death. So the world can pick apart her death? How does that help anyone? A healthy child died that probably  would be alive if those around her followed BASIC public health measures. Unsure if she or those around her were vaccinated but they probably would have helped too. Regardless, parents lost their child to this virus that two years ago was unheard of.

Additionally, why are people always so quick to say, when someone dies of covid, they had/must have had preexisting conditions.  Just because someone has diabetes doesn’t mean they they would die decades before they were supposed to. Not all obese people normally die of a respiratory illness. If everyone in this country would succumb to covid due to preexisting conditions there would barely be anyone left. Something like 40% of people in this country are obese. Imagine if they all died of covid? Organ recipients, folks with high blood pressure, cancer patients, smokers etc. to think it’s all Normal that these people are dying of a respiratory illness (that’s in the same family as a cold) way before their time is crazy..and just not smart.

Because the overwhelming evidence suggests that preexisting conditions greatly exacerbate the effects of Covid19.  One of the big reasons Covid19 positive patients should never have been sent back to nursing homes/care facilities where there are a lot of folks present with weakened immune systems, or other preexisting conditions.  Knowing this helps the medical community understand the folks that may have the toughest time.  Also, most people do not actually die from Covid.

Last week I picked up the guy who helps with odd jobs around here:  He wasn't available for a few weeks and he told me why:  He lost his wife to Covid ( age 48) and it tore his family apart. Two over 18 kids and no one could go into the hospital to see her.

Sorry to hear this.  Prayers for the man and his family, and strength to you as you share their pain. :(

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Healthy 13 year old's dont succumb quickly to what?  This Delta variant is ripping through the unvaccinated ( and vaccinated) parts of the country and we seriously don't know how this impacts young people.

I was referring to how quickly she passed, according to the reports.  Tested positive on Friday, breathing issues on Saturday morning, died on the way to the hospital.  That is unusual, according to what I know about Covid deaths, Delta or otherwise.  Most people linger for a while.  Do you have facts that show healthy people are just keeling over so quickly, without much of a fight?

6 hours ago, yuna628 said:

Tsk, don't you know she killed herself really because pre-existing conditions that we don't even know exist is totally her fault. Totally 'normal' 'healthy' people don't die, it's just physically impossible. COVID only kills 'defective' people, you know.

Get a grip. You know very well that Covid kills people with comorbidities at a tremendously higher rate than healthy people.  Her quick death, without the details, seems to indicate something else MAY have been going on.

Really... you are never going to reason with attitudes and denial like this.

You wrote the attitude and denial, and then assigned it to me based on me wondering if the girl may have had other issues, given the circumstances and her age?
