I am scheduled to take Oath on the 23rd August.

I am planning on applying for passport on the same day.

Expedited processing + priority mailing

Can someone please let me know how long it may take?

I tried reading through the passport tracker thread but it was not clear as it had many posts about personal issues and in-person appointments, congressperson help etc - not a knock on those people - they need help and glad they are getting on this forum. But the processing timeline information has taken a backseat.

As always, I truly appreciate all the info this forum provides.

Ah, right, sorry I missed that part! :D To answer the question somewhat, it seems to vary based on which processing center gets your application or where you apply from. Some are a bit faster than others.

For me personally, I send everything overnight mail and also paid via money order to make the process go as fast as possible. Applied for expedited service July 29th at USPS and application was received by DOS August 3rd. According to the passport application site:

You requested expedited service when you applied, which we are currently processing within 6 weeks. Our processing times do not include mailing times, which could add 6 weeks to the door-to-door time.

Look at the other threads and see how long it took most people. Anyhow, you never know how long your case might take. They might need more documentation or the center that your passport is sent to might be busier or less busy than others. You'll never know.

I think i took my Oath on June 23rd and applied for a US passport on June 24th. Mine was approved and mailed on July 29. The passport card 2 days after that. I am yet to receive my original naturalization certificate that i mailed with my application.

My advice would be to plan for a 2 month wait at least even if you choose to expedite your passport. If its processes sooner, its a bonus.

Good luck.

I’ve seen some postings showing approval within 3 weeks

I tried reading through the passport tracker thread but it was not clear as it had many posts about personal issues and in-person appointments, congressperson help etc - not a knock on those people - they need help and glad they are getting on this forum. But the processing timeline information has taken a backseat.

Not sure how relevant this is, since mine was a renewal, but I just got mine back today Aug 12 and I sent the renewal out on July 12 via 2-3 day USPS mail. I expedited as well. Check was cashed on July 19.

My husband and I both applied earlier this summer. I applied for a passport renewal and did not pay for any expedited services. Mine took about 6 weeks to arrive. My husband applied for a first time passport (just became a citizen). He paid for expedited processing as well as faster shipping, and his took about 3 weeks.

If you send priority mail and do 1-2 shipping back, you cut out most of the “6 weeks” they say to allow for mailing and are just left with the 6 weeks processing time they state. Many on the thread seem to have a submit-to-receipt time of 4-5 weeks, some lucky ones even slightly faster than that. I don’t think too many have taken the full 6 weeks, assuming no issues with the application (one guy took ages because certain required documents had not been submitted)
