Anyone else in the same boat as me? It appears everyone I know is moving quicker than my N-400 case is (Seattle office) :(

  • I submitted my application in Oct 2019
  • Biometrics in Nov 2019
  • Lots of misleading timelines on my account that ultimately led to nothing
  • Green card finally expired in Jan 2021
  • Got an extension stamped in my UK/EU passport
  • Extension runs out in Jan 2022, and validity of my UK/EU passport ends in Jan 2022 (Brexit)
  • Waited 7hrs on hold with USCIS this week to be told they scheduled and then unscheduled me an appointment in March 2021, but don't know why.
  • Filed an "outside of normal processing times" request online, heard nothing on that but got an email response on my account saying "Your case is currently delayed because the required security checks are still pending. We cannot make a decision on your case until we receive the results of these security checks."

So now I wait. As everything expires further and further And I can't leave the country to see my family in Scotland.

If you filed online, go and submit a document under "other documents" sector. This trick triggers something in the USCIS system.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

You are not alone on this. I filed almost a year ago and it’s Seattle too and nothing. I have read of people getting N400 interviews within couple months in other states. Seattle is about the slowest in the country and it sucks. The system is super unfair and flawed. I have called there 1800 number couple times and each time they say everything looks good and it’s in line for interview and months continue to go. I’m really considering moving outta this state cos of this.

If I had moved to Denver to submit, i would have been a citizen 1.5 years ago!

Why can't you?  You still have a valid green card.

Because they told me if I leave and then get my interview, even if i rush back - I will have to reschedule the interview as they have a mandatory 14 day quarantine when you have been outside the US at their offices. Also, even if I went, and the rules change with the delta variant, I could get stuck (or if we test positive with the pre-boarding testing). All in all, this could delay even more and then i will be inside my green card extension window with an expired passport too.

Jeez.  Hang in there!  We waited 14 months for our AOS interview at Tukwila, and that was just before COVID and the closures that followed.  I hope they schedule you soon.

There is definitely lack of transparency in the whole process. One cannot not know the real reason. It is not like an office where one can go and have a conversation

I'm curious, what do you mean by validity of my UK/EU passport ends in Jan 2022 (Brexit)?

If it's your UK passport that expires, you can just renew it.

If you mean that you have the older style burgundy UK passport with the words EU on it. It will still be a fully valid passport after Jan 2022, you can use it to travel exactly as you did before.

The older burgundy passports are only valid prior to the last 6 months left on it, and mines is going to expire Jun 2022. I can't renew right now, because that is where I have the green card extension stamp that is also set to expire around the same time. Everything is clustering at the same time.

Valid for what? You mean entry into the USA? That would be correct. However the passport remains valid for other purposes.

Just another random guy from the internet with an opinion, although usually backed by data!

As a UK citizen and a US resident, you can enter the UK and US right up until the expiry of your passport. The 6 months rule is just for other countries.

If you wanted to renew your UK passport before then, you'd need to get USCIS to put another I-551 stamp in that.

Not necessarily...

When I filed my AOS back in 2016 - I lived in NYC, and the processing times were about 12 months. I moved to Denver early in the process, and their office had 4-6 months processing time estimate. Well, plenty of people who filed in NYC the same month as I did got approved within 5 months while my case took a year in Denver.

Average processing times are just that - average.

On your topic: have you tried contacting your congressman's or senator's office? I did it twice: once in CO and once in VT, and both times it helped move my case immediately.
