Does anyone else feel the I-134 is asking for too much information?

It asks for:

  1. Annual income
  2. Balance in savings and checking accounts
  3. Value of other personal property
  4. Market value of all stocks and bonds
  5. Amount of life insurance
  6. Real estate value

This is very private information and I don't feel comfortable answer all of the questions.

Do we actually need to fill in all of this?  Have any of you omitted certain items without issue?

All due to people sponsoring immigrants and not providing for them......   I guess omit if you don't fear they will reject the document.

You will have to get used to providing this kind of information to immigration officials, at pretty much every stage of the process.

They are looking for proof that you can financially support the intending immigrant. If you want your process to go smoothly, there isn't much of a choice but to comply. The one bright side is, if your current income is sufficient, you don't need to disclose the value of your assets.

Nevertheless, you will likely be obliged to show some of your financial statements at later stages of the process, as proof of financial comingling / proof of a bonafide marriage. At my AOS interview, the officer looked at our joint bank and credit card statements, encircling balances and individual transactions. We are already getting ready to do the same thing at the ROC stage two years from now.

As others have pointed out, you do not need to provide all that information if you make enough in income. USCIS forms are all inclusive/ caters for all.

Now, on personal information, wait till you get to AOS, pop up for interview and they start asking intimate stuff like sex. What color of undergarments is your spouse wearing, how many times do you have sex, when was the last time you had sex etc. I have seen it happen. It is part of USCIS job to try and take out the weeds. You are not the first, nor will you be the last to be asked such questions.

Do not provide "personal information" if you do not want you or your spouse to immigrate. Otherwise, tow the line.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

you dont have to answer.

just as you dont have to marry (or want to marry) a foreigner and have them move here.

so, you can get used to divulging all of these details about your life (and trust me, this is just the VERY beginning of that), or ... find a local to marry.

your choice.

Lol, the tone in some of the responses.

Thanks to those who pointed out that there is no need to disclose additional financial information beyond salary if the amount of salary alone is sufficient.

As for those who are  eager to give out any kind of information without ever stopping to think about whether or not it's actually necessary in respect to the current situation—your life, your choice.

I mean, they have to make sure you can sponsor your partner. I personally did not feel like it was providing a lot of information. But wait until you have to fill out I-864 for Adjust of Status. That one is more fun. /s

USCIS will know more about you than anyone else ever will. Part of immigration.
