Apparently a SSN can now be requested via the I-485 form. Our checks just cleared today- anyone have any idea if we're able to include a request for a SSN once the application has been accepted?

The article says "Once USCIS approves an applicant’s Form I-485, the Social Security Administration will issue the applicant a SSN or replacement card."

So if I understand it correctly (but who knows) it seems like you can get an SSN after they approved the petition, a.k.a after interview? You can get a SSN if you came on a K1 visa (within 60-70 days) and before filing for adjustment. Not sure if you can file after getting married. If you adjusted from other categories you can get a SSN once you obtain your EAD card which will be faster than getting approved for the whole petition.

I doubt that you can send in a new version of the form if you already applied and USCIS accepted your petition.

Might be wrong here pls correct me if I was wrong.

Did you file form I-765?  That form already facilitates request for SSN.

Even if the new I-485 form now includes that section for SSN, the AOS applicant still won't be issued an SSN until after AOS approval (or EAD approval if I-765 was also filed).
