So after over a year I finally got my interview scheduled in Ciudad Juarez and I thought I had everything ready but today (4 days before my interview) I got an email saying that I need to bring my petitioner's original long form of birth certificate: Does anyone know what that is about? We just looked online and it will most likely not be possible to have it ready by the time of the interview and I am fuming because nowhere during the process it was hinted that we would need that at this point, otherwise we would have gotten it during the 14 months we were waiting for this interview. I have all my (the applicant) civil documents ready but this is throwing me off really bad. Does anybody know what chance I might have to just be like "yeah we don't have that but here is my husband's passport where it says where he was born" and be ok?

Also, I have read that some people have brought a photocopy of it but my husband's literally had "Do Not Reproduce" written all over it, so is that really an option? be cause we might be able to get that.

I hope someone can help with their experience. Thanks in advance!

I am right there with you!!!! We were already here in Juarez!! And it sucks because I only had the copy and honestly it lies with the person who Interviews you. It’s in their hands. For my first appointment she asked me for it, I didnt have it, I said no but I have his passport (which like you said it was in the checklist ) and she ignored that and said not even a copy? And I had only a copy which I gave to her and still on the paper she put I was missing the original. I was stressing so much because people that were sent away with a blue paper for missing documents are waiting weeks to get their visa back. I got back to the hotel and cried for hours. Anyways the next Day, today, was my interview and the girl didn’t even ask me. She just looked at the copy. And took whatever she needed from it. It was all going so smooth I was so relieved and then BAM my stupid medical exam was nowhere to be found. So I was sent away and have to wait for them to find it. But yes they do want the birth certificate and it is up to the person that helps you whether or not they accept what you have. Just take your copy and hope for the best. You could also start the process of having someone get it for you in the states and send it through dhl for you here. That’s what we’re doing while we wait. Because I dont know if I’m going to have to interview again and I don’t want to risk the next person not accepting my copy.

Also, dhl Can have the package here in like 2-3 days. So if you can get a direct family member of your husband to go get a printout of your husbands birth certificate today, it should make it here even possibly by your 2nd interview. We got my husbands sister to go today, Tuesday the 10th, all she needed was her birth certificate, and had a friend go and mail it and it says it’ll be here on the 12th.
