I filed an I-130 DCF in London earlier this year, and now we’re onto the DS-260, medical, and interview stages.

My wife was treated with stress-induced mental

health problems about 10 months ago. The only part of her treatment still ongoing is her medication because the dosage has to be brought down slowly.

She was discharged by her therapist in March and has notes from that treatment. The report confirms that she was never a threat to herself or others, but it also says that she was not in recovery, as not all of her symptoms had subsided. The report mentions that her condition had improved though.

Would bringing this report and proof of her medication dosage being lowered since discharge from the therapist be sufficient for the medical?

All health issues or concerns will be addressed as part of the official medical exam conducted by the civil surgeon.

Visa Medicals in London should be fine with a therapist report that states the words “not a threat to herself or others”. That is the big concern they want confirmed by a medical professional. She will also need her Summary Care Record from NHS which should include a list of her current medications, recent treatments or visits. A statement from her GP  detailing her prognosis and medication reduction plan would be helpful for the doctor at Visa Medicals to understand her mental health issue as explained by a medical practitioner rather than only by her.  You should leave a  gap longer than the suggested week between the medical and interview in case they want any additional information that she has to get from her GP.  Be sure and check the list provided by Visa Medicals clinic in London for everything she needs to bring to her exam and get those in hand. https://visamedicals.co.uk/united-states/

You can do the DS-260 now. Interview appointments are still hard to find on the calendar, but you can start looking once you have the documents for the medical lined up. Medical appointments are easy to get within a week of requesting.

The UK forum on Visa Journey would be a good place to ask questions specific to a London medical or interview. https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/99-united-kingdom/

Reading the Panel Physician’s technical instructions on mental health might help you understand the evaluation process better. https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/panel-physicians/mental-health.html#mental-health-examination

I will note that few in London are referred for a psych exam (as mentioned in the instructions). If you bring documentation from the therapist and GP, they will have enough to do their report without additional hoops to jump through.
