Hi all!  I appreciate if someone can help me with the following question: I am a permanent resident.  I currently have an approved permit to reside outside the USA, I am thinking of applying for government insurance for people over 65 years of age and I want to know if that may affect me since I am not currently living in the USA for the reasons I explained above .  Thank you all very much for your cooperation!

YOu need to post here in English or in the south amercian forums

how did you did a permit to reside outside the US as PLR?

you can buy senior health care insurance but i only know of one that covers outside the US and it requires you to pay upfront for hospital and Dr's and submit forms and proofs of care to get the money back

Presumably a Rentry Permit and Medicare

if the OP has 40 quarters of work experience paid into Medicare  / OP first has to apply for SS benefits for retirement

You can buy into Medicare after 5 years with no quarters.

I assume you have a re-entry permit since you say you have permission to live outside the US.

If you are 65 and qualified for Medicare you should apply for it since there is a penalty to apply for it late. If you are buying into Medicare I don't see the point as I don't think it covers medical care outside of the US.

Either having or not having Medicare is not an issue with citizenship.

I don't think I have explained it well yet.  I understand that obtaining government health insurance is a grant that the government gives to permanent residents of the USA.  I am a permanent resident of the USA but I am not currently residing in the USA.  As I visit the USA regularly, I would like to have the health insurance that the government grants to people over 65, my only concern is that this benefit is not allowed for me, since I currently have a permit to reside outside the USA.

I met US Citizens who retired to Mexico, have Medicare and come back for the Doctor stuff.

A Permanent Resident lives in the US and visits elsewhere, just to be clear.

Approval of reentry permit and not living in the US does not necessarily mean you are no longer a permanent resident. You are still very much LPR so you can apply for Medicare once you qualify.

To help get a better answer , how long did you live in the US and work there  before you got the reentry permit.  There is a health insurance that is available to people over 65 that have paid when they were younger through a tax to their pay over the years.   If you don't have enough credit from this tax you have to pay your share of the insurance.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Although I am living outside the USA, I travel frequently to the USA.  I want to know if applying for Government health insurance having a permit to reside outside the USA could affect me when I went to become an American citizen.

A permanent resident LIVES in the U.S. and VISITS other countries. Just because you have a reentry permit doesn't mean you are supposed to use your green card as a glorified visitor visa in order to keep your resident status.
