I just called NVC and talked with him about the Warsaw situation and Poland called for all EU countries to stop issuing any Schengen visa to Russian people and asked if I can transfer our case to another country and he said it make sense, which country is good?

Do you have a source for this? I'm pretty sure each country can call its own shots and Poland cannot dictate to them what to do. Just wondering if there's been an update on any of the policies.

Armenia and Serbia both have visa-free travel to Russian citizens, and Armenia for sure has visa-free travel to Americans as well. (I'm not sure about Serbia). I emailed the American Embassy in Armenia and they wouldn't take our case, however, and my fiance has a work visa and temporary residence permit. (We can literally walk to the embassy from our apartment and they still declined us.)

Also if Poland makes a threat, it's just a threat, it hasn't been voted upon or become law. If anything, the Russians trying to LEAVE Russia are the LEAST likely to support the war in Ukraine! (A lot of people left for their own self-interest, or out of not wanting to work and pay taxes to the government). It reminds me of when our president wanted to ban TikTok, WeChat, and get rid of birthright citizenship. A lot of talk but no action taken!

Let's pray the "getting to Poland" problem doesn't get worse for us 😂😂😭

Now that is interesting - I would have thought that if you can prove that you are resident in another country, then the embassy of said country would have jurisdiction with regard to visa processing for the sole reason of geographic proximity. Hypothetically - what if a Russian was living in South America? Would they still have to then travel to Poland? Seems bizarre...

No, it is normally the case that you can transfer to the local embassy when you live there. However, maybe the embassy staff in Serbia are just weird. Serbia is a small country. Could be a post-Covid capacity issue. Who knows.

There was a Ukrainian who successfully transferred to Vienna recently. Could be worth asking them to see if they'll take a Russian transfer from Warsaw.

You meant Armenia, right?

Nevertheless, what you said is what I thought would be the case - that the current country of residence would be the governing factor in which embassy is assigned.

Whoops, yeah, that's what I meant!

In the vast majority of cases, it is so. Where you are a resident is where you do the interview. Nationality doesn't determine it.

Hi Mike, were you actually told that NVC can transfer the case for you? When we called NVC with the same question in February, we were told that they'll transfer our case if I can arrange it with any other consulate to accept us. I reached out to the US embassy in Kazakhstand and Uzbekistan (because Russians don't need visas to travel there) and got rejected by both.

But here is what I would suggest for you to consider. While you are working on transferring the case, get a multiple-entry Italian Schengen visa for six months. While you still can. Italy started issueing those in March. We got it a couple of weeks ago, and I know of someone else who just got it. Everything is in such great flux at the moment that you don't know what you'll have a few weeks or even days from now. (I've read that the Netherlands has just stopped issuing touris visas). And if you manage to transfer your case, great. But if not, at least you'll have a schengen with which you'll be able to travel to Poland. Hope this helps. Good luck!

We just get our case number but my fiancée said she doesn’t want to go to Poland, she wants me to find another embassy and I was rejected by Armenia and Kazakhstan and I don’t know where I can find and what to do, she loves Russia and believes everything on TV and I avoided to talk politics with her.

The reality is here if she wants to come to the US, she'll have to go through some embassy somewhere. Poland is the designated one so if all else fails, she will have to go there.

You could try looking into others, here's the list:

Try to get Schengen visa and if she could not get it than you would have the reason to ask for another Embassy. But now it is more like she does not want to go there because people there hates Russian. She should go to Vinskiy Forum to read at least about Russians' experience to get visas in Poland and what people say about Polish people and Embassy staff, no bad attitude to anybody!

We just get our case number but my fiancée said she doesn’t want to go to Poland, she wants me to find another embassy and I was rejected by Armenia and Kazakhstan and I don’t know where I can find and what to do, she loves Russia and believes everything on TV and I avoided to talk politics with her.

She may not have a choice here, unfortunately. I agree with Allu: it may be a good idea to read about other people's experiences with Poland. My mom, an IR-5 visa applicant, was petrified about going to Poland too. Everyone in Russia was trying to dissuade her from the idea by telling all sorts of baseless nonesense (like she won't be checked into a hotel etc.)  She just had her interview on 4/21 in Warsaw. She told me that all her experiences were very positive, that everyone was super friendly and accomodating.

Just one more proofs of my words! There are good people everywhere!! Of course it will be a difficult trip not just like take a plane to Moscow. But what I think all these difficulties are nothing because she is going to be her beloved soon!

I know of another K1 filer, @Hlebster, who got an appointment for early April very recently. However, for me, the earliest availability is July. Perhaps this has something to do with my application being messed up, but it's very strange indeed. That's why I'm convinced the spaces are actually available, but are being made open on emergency conditions. Once I get the DS-160 situation straightened out I'll contact Warsaw to see what's going on, I've heard they're very helpful over the phone, which is nice to hear. My experiences post-USCIS with calling people has been nothing but a pleasure, lol.

Another difference between us, perhaps, is that Belarusians don't have to transfer in to Warsaw; it's our designated embassy. It seems to me that transfer cases are having tremendous difficulties with scheduling, whereas (provided I did the DS-160 right), we'd have everything done for the interview in a single day. I only got NVC number this morning.

I got my NVC case number yesterday, I am doing the DS160 but rapid visa told me I should not do it now, need do it until the case is transferred to Warsaw embassy, but I heard interviews dates are only available in November, can you book the interview date before your case arrives in Warsaw?

If your interview has to be scheduled by NVC (like most immigrant visa interviews), then you won't be able to book an interview date before your case arrives in Warsaw. At least, this was our experience.
