Are you saying that your dad is currently in the United States? If this is the case, he shouldn't have to apply for a US immigrant visa. He can apply for adjustment of status directly. I'm pretty sure I saw a formal statement about it somewhere when US designated Russia a "homeless" nation last fall. I would call US Department of State to confirm.

This. DoS said that those Russians already in the country can file for AOS without worry or concern due to the embassy being shut down. It's probably better unless he has some super specific reason to go back to Russia in the meantime.

Hi Everyone. We just got our interview scheduled for April 1, 2022. I don't see how we can manage this on such short notice. Is it even realistic to get a schengen visa from Russia at this point? I'm going to call the US Embassy in Warsaw and inquire about rescheduling. Does anyone have any suggestions/comments?

What visa category are you?

Ok thanks. Yes I contacted ustraveldocs and they said (both by phone and by email) they have everything and just to wait. NVC status also is ok. Have letter from them. NVC also replied to an inquiry saying that everything is in Warsaw and just wait. So we are just waiting. I am just not sure how long is this wait. We also have a single entry Schengen visa from Greece. But it's going to run out of days of stay in Schengen on Feb 3 and if we don't make it in and out of Poland by then will need to extend it somehow while we are in Greece or in Poland or reapply for a second visa. I just hope my fiance would not need to go back from Greece (or from Poland) back to Russia to reapply for another Schengen visa and the back to Greece and back to Poland. I cannot really find any info on how to extend a single entry Schengen visa while inside Schengen and outside of your home country (i.e. Russia). Does anyone have any recent experience with doing that?

Hey, I thought to check with you on how have you extended your visa or was your interview before it expired? My dad's visa expiring on 3/21 and I'm thinking about traveling to Poland if there is a chance to extend his Greece visa...

Curious to those who got appointments in Warsaw; I see in the scheduler the earliest one is July. Was anyone ever able to get one earlier, are they just 'blocked out' and will open up as time goes on, or are they indeed all booked?

Our appointment date for IR5 visa was scheduled for us by the NVC. Out of curiousity, what visa type are you applying for?

Hello! Ours is K-1. I have a bit of a side-problem (that is, the wrong DS-160 was selected in the USATravelDocs platform for our interview), but the earliest spot I could snag (albeit with the incorrect DS-160) was July 13th. However, when I go back in, it says the earliest appointment is now March 31st... but it doesn't show me that on the scheduler, either. Very strange stuff.

My understanding is that more spots will open up, or at least, we can keep checking for someone to cancel. But I also think there's a maximum number of times you can view the scheduling page, so I'm a bit afraid to exceed that, lol.

It is so unclear how this works. Our current appointment has been scheduled by NVC for April 1st. I checked earlier today what dates are available if we have to miss it, and the system showed me March 21. Then I checked again and was shown June 1st. And checking just now I'm shown April 19th...

I know of another K1 filer, @Hlebster, who got an appointment for early April very recently. However, for me, the earliest availability is July. Perhaps this has something to do with my application being messed up, but it's very strange indeed. That's why I'm convinced the spaces are actually available, but are being made open on emergency conditions. Once I get the DS-160 situation straightened out I'll contact Warsaw to see what's going on, I've heard they're very helpful over the phone, which is nice to hear. My experiences post-USCIS with calling people has been nothing but a pleasure, lol.

Another difference between us, perhaps, is that Belarusians don't have to transfer in to Warsaw; it's our designated embassy. It seems to me that transfer cases are having tremendous difficulties with scheduling, whereas (provided I did the DS-160 right), we'd have everything done for the interview in a single day. I only got NVC number this morning.

2. Try to call Schengen embassies in US and see if he, as a B1 visa holder (tourist), could apply in embassies/consulates in US for a Schengen visa.... So confusing!

Typically you cannot apply for visas outside your home country, unless you have permanent residency in another country (i.e. Green card here in the US). Since your dad only has a tourist visa, he won't be able to apply for Schengen in the US.

Hello, friends!

As an update, we've emailed NVC to expedite my dad's immigrant case in Warsaw, Poland over a week ago due to his preexisting condition and fragile health. We were approved this morning...

Unfortunately, his Schengen is expiring literally today...

You all were right regarding reapplying/extending Schengen visa from US. It seems to be impossible for non-residents... I have contacted a senator, but the hope isn't big..

I wonder if it is a good idea traveling to Russia right now and trying to do a Schengen from there? I'm afraid Schengen won't be ready in time, or Martial Law gets implemented, or they just stop letting people out of the country... What do you, guys, think?

Also, if he does go to Russia for the visa... 1. Which embassy should we apply for a Schengen? Is Greece still a good option? 2. Is it a good idea for me, a US Citizen, or my sister, a Green Card holder, to accompany him in Russia and out of Russia?
