When I went to see my husband back in oct I was asked about job return ticket ect. If I go down now since I’m at home with my parents that won’t be a good tie to Canada.

Ah okay.

I mean i went for a month may to june and i had no issues. Living with my parents and unemployed. No questions asked about ties

Hello Everyone,

I’m probably overthinking this. I’m looking at the visa in my passport from when I entered, I have the CBP admittance stamp from when I activated my visa but the CBP officer didn’t write my visa class or the expiry date. I’m looking at all of my previous B2 visitor visa stamps and they all have a hand written “B2” and the expiry date on them. My CR-1 visa Admittance stamp only has the stamp with the stamped date of entry. My question is for the other people on here who have already activated their CR-1/IR-1 visas, did the CBP officer write anything on the admittance stamp? Or is it just a blank stamp and stamped date of entry? I’m just worried now that without the class or anything written on it it may not be considered valid or something. (See attached picture)

Also this is probably a long shot, but I am a truck driver for work and I was able to get my regular drivers license in Arizona with my passport visa/stamp however when I went to the MVD to get my commercial drivers license they informed me that I needed to have the physical greencard for them to give me a CDL. This seemed very wrong to me and my lawyer even told me that should not be the case as the passport visa/stamp is just as much proof of residency as a physical greencard card is. Now I’m unable to start any of the jobs I had offers for because I’m unable to get my Commercial Drivers license until my greencard shows up.  Anybody have an opinion on this? Any truck drivers on here who were able to get a CDL with just a passport visa/stamp?

Thank you!

Canadian Hawk Rider has a stamp with CR1 and the date.

The visa printed in your passport states: "IV docs in CCD. Upon endorsement serves as temporary I551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year"

It might be worth pointing out that statement to your DMV agent.

Hi everyone, hope all is well!

I was wondering if anyone from here has travelled to the US to meet their spouses recently, and if yes, what type of COVID test did you take and where did you get it done from? I'm wondering if we need to get it done with a specific company?

Thank you!

Hey - please fill out your timeline and follow the instructions in my signature to be added to the tracking sheet.

Ours all have our visa type and date, like your B1's. I'd set up an appointment with your local CBP office and get it fixed (yep, annoying and yet another hurdle - sorry!).

As for the license, it clearly states an I-551 which is what your visa in your passport is - a temporary I-551 until the permanent version comes, as listed on the USCIS website as documents that establish identity and employment authorization.  I'm not that surprised that you're having challenges.  People are not adequately trained in how to manage 'non-standard" documents.  I had the local SSA telling me that I couldn't get Kid2's social without the physical green card, which was incorrect.

Hi! First time poster here. I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with sending in additional documents to the consulate after the interview? I forgot to bring one of the original documents to the interview (my mistake!), so was given instructions to mail it to them. If you've been in this situation, did you use the consulate-paid courier with Canada Post (how many days did it take to get to the consulate), or did you use a UPS/Fedex to further expedite it? And how long did your additional processing take? Thanks so much!

Thanks for sharing your experience!  Did you show your NOA1 and NOA2  digitally?

I showed the paper copies. Phones aren't allowed out in the inspection area (unless they ask for them) so I wouldn't rely on being able to show digital proof.

I am not a lawyer and nothing I say is or should be taken as legal advice.

I had to send in my documents after my interview. Long story short, I used the consulate-paid courier from Canada Post because in their email correspondence with me it stated "We strongly encourage applicants to send ALL the required documents together to the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal using our courier service at no cost for the applicant. This helps process mail more efficiently and helps avoid unnecessary delays.".

Using their paid courier system from Canada Post, it took a just under a week to get from BC to Montreal. After that, it took them 3 weeks to review/update my status. Followed by 2 days to send out my approved visa/passport/documents. My documents were sent out last Friday and it should arrive this Wed.. waiting to pick it up.

I was reading security instructions for Montreal embassy .. seems like they don’t allow any backpack or purse . How are people planning to carry their documents ?

2. It also seems no recording devices are allowed including cellphones . Does that mean that cellphones need to be kept at hotel or if we turn it off it is fine ?

I had a simple cloth bag with folder inside that held my documents with wallet and keys. They have lockers there for you to store your phone if you have it with you. I also had two kids with me so I had 3 kids books, tiny bottle of water and some crackers and they were ok with that.

I asked my lawyer about the stamp and he said since it’s an immigrant visa not a B2 the type of visa does not need to be written on the stamp? This sounds incorrect but now I’m not sure what to do or how to go about it.

As for the DMV, I agree I don’t think they deal with it very often so instead of looking into it they just tell me no without my greencard. I showed them where it says is temporary proof of I-551 and they didn’t care. I will probably attempt to try a different DMV location and see if I can do it again.

thanks!
