When did you apply for Canadian citizenship? The applications are significantly backlogged due to Covid and I think people are waiting at least 12-24 months to be naturalized.

For case 1, no, as far as I know you can gain/lose citizenship without impacting your US residency. Think about cases whereby people acquire additional citizenships by getting the paperwork to derive it from grandparents (some countries allow this). Aside from this, I think it's reasonably common for people to become Canadian after moving to the US, you'll need to travel to Canada to do the oath (I think they're allowing virtual testing outside Canada now). But so long as you're actually living in the US, your residency should be absolutely fine. I don't think you need to notify USCIS aside from providing the info any further forms you may end up filing, but I don't think it could hurt to ask their helpline to confirm if you need to inform them of a change of citizenship.

In case 2, you'll probably need to inform NVC, but it shouldn't make a difference to your visa application, you'll just need to provide them the updated passport, given that your Indian one won't be valid anymore.

Also, I imagine you're probably aware of this, but you'll probably want to acquire OCI status so you can have continued easy travel and stays in India.

Thanks for your response. It makes perfect sense. I plan to apply for Canadian citizenship next month.

Am I in the right spot for updates? I'm petitioning for my wife to come from Canada to USA. We got DQ'd on October 16, 2020. We are awaiting an interview date.

This forum is massive and I hope everyone is doing well.

Hey everyone - quick questions for people who may have recently crossed by land border to activate their CR/IR-1 Visas. I am looking for answers in the forums but the thread is from 2009 and it's 2021. I'm guessing a lot of things have changed. Where should I look for answers about filling in Customs forms (using U-Pack), driving over but not importing my car, and what will I have to pay duty on, if anything (I'm bringing a bottle of Midleton I brought back from Ireland in 2006 that is unopened and it was worth a lot of Euros back then). If someone could direct me to the most current info, I'd appreciate it, and I'll report back about my crossing when I go through on July 17. Thanks!

Used household goods are good to go as long as they are over a year old and have been used in the house hold. As for alcohol same rules apply as normal crossing if it’s ur only bottle and under the limit u should be good to go. If sad bottle is worth crazy amount not ur normal u may be charged. I would try and dig up the bill for it just to be safe. Also u-pack website or agent should have all the info for importing stuff. From what I’ve seen a lot of ppl use them.

Yes, welcome!! You're just in time. I'm not sure if you have seen the excel sheet that's keeping track of interviews, but the last batch included DQ dates up to around Sept 20ish. We're hoping for a big batch in a few weeks for August interviews since Montreal is now in green zone, I hope you'll be getting your interview letter then! :D

Hello! Thank You!! I'am aware of the spreadsheet. I'm on it but need to update a couple things i believe. From looking at it I should get a lettee for my wife this month or next month. I would love an august interview but a september one would be more ideal since we have stuff going on.

Just finished up my medical with Dr Cheema in Surrey. Great experience and just an all around good guy. Exam was a breeze! Flew out of Edmonton at 7am and arrived in Vancouver at 7:15 local time. Grabbed a taxi and go to the medical at 8am (my appointment was at 9am) but they got me started on the small amount of paperwork and I was out by 9am to the X-ray. That took 15mins and then off to the lab which was just down the street. Had to wait until my appointment at 10:30 which Cheemas office made! Out of there by 11 and at the airport having a beer at noon. Lots of time left for my 1:30 departure back to Edmonton…

Confirmation this morning that the medical has been sent to the consulate. Very quick turn around given there was a holiday last week

U-Pack should know what forms are required. If they don't, yikes, but also if your stuff is crossing separately from you I believe it's form 3299. You have 10 years to move your stuff duty free as long as you've owned it for at least a year (although I've yet to see anyone get dinged for this because it's hard to prove). You can take your car and don't have to import it when you cross (I think you have a year to import it?) but they'll probably ask you about it so be prepared to explain your plan for either importing it later or selling it (which can't be done in the US without importing it).

Uploading it to the NVC beforehand won't hurt but you could also just bring it with you if you don't want to upload it. Either way, bring both to the interview.

Quick question. I keep hearing people talk about biometrics. When exactly is this supposed to be done? I'm not seeing anything trave.state.gov where the 12 steps are at. My wife nor myself has received anything telling her to get biometrics done so I'm a bit concerned. Is it not required for people coming from Canada to U.S?

Biometrics? Sorry I read your question wrong. What exactly do you mean by this? Are you referring to the medical appointment required before the interviewing or getting fingerprinting done for the police check?

Biometrics are taken at the interview. There is no need for a separate biometrics appointment for our visa category.

Hello all,

I have a quick question. The US consulate website says that the applicants must bring medical examination

results in sealed envelope to the interview. I specifically asked Dr Cheema's staff the other day about this,

and they said medical results will be sent to the Consulate through email, and I didn't need to pick it up there.

The FAQ also said that the panel physicians will be sending the the results electronically to the Consulate.

Does this means that I don't need to bring the med exam results with me to the interview? Dr office mentioned

that a CD will be sent to my home address.Do I need to bring this CD?

Any replies are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!
