Will some of you guys still renew their police certificate even though they're now valid for 2 years ? We're hoping to have our interview in August and my police certificate will reach the one year mark on September 1st. We plan to stay a few months after getting the visa, could this be an issue ?

I redid mine, just in case. The answer I got from the consulate made me think it was truly up to the officer to decide, so didn’t want to take a chance of having any issues:

Right? We're so close to the end, it would be so unfortunate the officers decides they want a new one...which will then create even more delays. In situations where it is up to their discretion really puts us at their mercy.

Really unfortunate, but I also just need peace of mind at this stage!

I think they put that disclaimer because if you went to RCMP they will tell you that the Police Certificate is only valid for 6months.  With them extending it up to 1 year (or now 2years) they have the discretion to ask for a new Police Certificate that is within the 6month issuance if needed.  Atleast that's how I interpreted it...

He can change it, but he will likely need a “lease agreement” with his mother as a proof of residency/residential tie to Canada if he visits the US in addition to a letter of employment.

Hm so just something that states with signatures from both parties that he will stay at his parents address until immigration is complete would suffice?

If you are quite sure you'll get interview for August then you should be fine. Police certificate is only needed for interview, not afterwards. Of course, it is up to you, if it makes you feel better to redo it.

Anyone on here going into the interview without renewing it and following the new 2 year rule?

Ugh. You just gave me the push I needed to get mine redone here in the US. Commissionnaires sent me all the info on how to do it abroad. It’s going to cost $$$ but I want that peace of mind.

I did mine from the US with commissionaires. It was really easy and they were very helpful when I had questions. They also reviewed my fingerprints before I mailed it so if they weren’t clear enough I could get them redone before mailing.

Agreed, did the same as you. Very helpful.

However, RCMP made a typo in my address. Luckily they got it back, and I had to fill out paperwork to request “an address change” although it was clearly their fault.

They should mail it again in a few days. I really thought it got lost in the mail and that I would have to redo and pay (once again).

I did my fingerprints on May 28 in the US. Hoping there are no further issues and hope I get that letter with my correct address soon…and an IL too in August 🤞🤞🤞

We are in the same position. Mine expires at one point in AUG. They said they are now valid for two years so that's what I am going with.

I have spent way to much time over thinking every thing in this process.

I just had my interview today and was APPROVED :)

I'm not sure if this will help, but I only handed my original police certificate that's due to expire exactly 1week from today, July 9th.  I do have a more recent one that I got last month just in case, but they never asked for it and I forgot to ask if it's really 2years now.

I would assume they would have said something if it's an issue given the very close expiration date, but it was accepted as is.

I was told you have to move to the US 6months from your medical exam date, so I don't think it'll be an issue if you wanna stay a bit longer after your interview.

Oops! Just to be clear, I meant my police certificate was issued July 9, 2020 -- so if it's only valid for 1 year, it would be expiring next week...
