That looks like the one I got last August, I think it's correct? Any else can confirm?

I applied for a new PCC last week, and probably a good thing too given that I'm in the August interviews...if they happen lol.

Just as a heads up, I got my renewed police cert today and it's identical to this one. I provided the RCMP clerk a printout of the PCC requirements from the DoS. So I think we should be good.

Hi all - I had a question. I live in Ontario and got a new Police Certificate back in March. I made a VERY silly mistake by opening the letter in too much excitement and ended up tearing the top part a bit, all the text is still intact but the top part of the letter teared up. So bummed out with my tiny mistake. I am scared they wont accept it as is? Should I get another one done? So confused

Does the ripped part have any info on it or was it just the blank part of the paper? if all the info is intact, i would see no reason of it not being accepted.

Also when did you DQ? If you only submitted in March 2021, you probably are a recent DQ. We don't know how long of a wait we have ahead of us. If I would get a new Police Clearance, I would at least wait until an interview I anticipated in the next two months.

This just happened to me too!!! I was so mad at myself and I just put a piece of tape on it. But I’ve been wondering the same thing ugh

I actually made the same mistake. I submitted the rip copy (taped) to the NVC but I got another one. When I explained what I did to the immigration officer, she just took my new copy.

I didn’t ask whether she would have accepted the old one in it’s taped condition.

Same philosophy as before, you can take the risk but I didn’t want any unnecessary delays. I was in the last batch of interviews prior to the Montreal consulate shutting down in 2020 (crossed the border the day the border closed), so I am glad I didn’t leave anything to chance. Sucks that it cost more, but now that I’ve been here for over a year, it doesn’t keep me up at night =]

The ripped part has no info on it, all text is intact. I got DQed on Sep 21 2020, and got the IL on June 14th, interview is on July 23rd. To prep myself ahead of the interview, I had already got my police cert (second time) in Mar 2021

Oh I see.

1. I think your new police certificate with a small ripped corner but all info intact should be accepted.

2. As others have pointed out in previous posts, it appears that NVC has increased the validity period for police certificates. It is now valid for 2 years rather than one. So the one you submitted at NVC stage should still be valid. I imagine you still have that original document. Reference:

 https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-5-collect-financial-evidence-and-other-supporting-documents/step-7-collect-civil-documents.html

3. It looks like you have two valid police certificates. So the fact that there is small rip at one corner which has no impact whatsoever on the readability should make no difference.

I wouldn't bother getting a new police certificate, if I were you.... but if you want to get one as an abundance of caution, you may...

IMO for the Police Certificate validity, this post from travel.state. gov https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-5-collect-financial-evidence-and-other-supporting-documents/step-7-collect-civil-documents.html  is in general.

But this one here it is specifically mentioned to U.S. Consulate General Montreal, Canada Pre-Interview checklist

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/MTL-Montreal.html#pre_interview_checklist

So, for safe side as other people sayid better to have new one than going there without it and you will not get approve and have to be on AP status and regret it.

I myself had a personal experience of missing to bring a document during my Citizenship interview and receive RFE letter and have to submit that document.  Waited for another 30 days (which USCIS says may take up to 60 days to get back once they receive response to RFE).

So, it's better to have it all and requires you to give some than to have some and requires you to give all.

Thanks for highlighting this discrepancy. I actually saw this yesterday myself and assumed, the new requirement was simply not updated.

I just sent emails to both NVC and Montreal flagging this, and asking what the validity of the police certificate is for a candidate interviewing at Montreal. I will update all should I get a response.

Actually our friend here @Riversong already mentioned and volunteered to bring her both RCMP PCC and give us updated

Yes, I remember seeing this, but bringing to their attention a discrepancy (should it indeed be one) on their website so they can correct it, and to get the requirement in writing, is good to prevent future confusion, don't you think?

That was my motivation anyway...

That would be great to know especially those whose Police check will expire  before their interview.  Would save money and the hassle of doing it again!
