Yes, I think the action and comments was against another post. Not the one by @HD_BIRDS

You are correct @From_CAN_2_US!

As @YYZ&MIA indicated, the quarantine regulations have caused a lot of problems for many of us - both those who cannot easily visit their spouses or families on the other side of the border, and those of us waiting for an interview from outside of Canada. For those of us outside of Canada the nightmare logistics of having to quarantine for two weeks (and incur thousands of dollars for the hotel), have the medical appointment, and make the interview with sometimes only 2 - 3 weeks' notice have made it near impossible. As someone waiting in the US for the interview, the government's plan to lift quarantine requirements for vaccinated travelers entering Canada is a huge relief to me.

Unfortunately, the outlook at the Montreal consulate is grim... I submitted to NVC in April 2020 and I had the same rude awakening as you...

Correction - April 2021

I have a question (sorry a little different topic)

I have recently re-taken the passport photos (the previous have expired -well over a year now )

and when they print it out there was some shininess in the inner corners of my eye perhaps due to my skin oiliness around that area

there’s a particular spot that is very  shiny-I don’t know why the photographer didn’t see it but here I am now dubious

would you suggest that I take these photos again? How strict is the embassy?

also if say you are denied entry into the US seeing as our cases are being delayed

what are the chances it impacts to us

If we attempt to visit our spouses in the US?

It all depends on why they denied u entry. Almost all will put you into an ap status until sorted out. In some cases could be a 5-10 year ban. I traveled after Dq with out any problems but had strong ties to Canada and a return ticket that was back in nov. I didn’t think I’d still have almost a year wait.  And it was a short 4 day trip as well.

I've visited my spouse 12 times during the processes, 3-4 times after DQ.

Make sure you bring as much documentation to show your residential ties (I brought a folder each time), and I was questioned only once - they asked my occupation.

Depending on where your POE is, you may experience it differently. I entered through Toronto and you speak with the CBP before you board a flight. You have to answer honestly, but you don't need to provide unnecessary information that is not specifically asked. If they find you inadmissible for whatever reason, don't argue, turn around and go home. As long as you answer honestly and don't do anything that will lead to a bar, it shouldn't affect the immigration process.

I just got back from a 6 week visit to my wife in US. We were DQ'd April 30th 2021. During Visa processing, I have visited 2 times. During COVID - 3 times. All via Pearson Airport Toronto. I only got asked where I was going and if I had return flight booked.

What are some other residential ties?

I am frequently travelling to my wife in US due to time apart but also her health. I just recently made the tough decision to quit my job as a nurse in April to make this visit.

Aside from car insurance (car is my parents), and two Canadian bank accounts ....I cant think of anything else that would support me IF i ever got questioned further. I have a US phone number and I reside with my parents...so not many utility bills.

You need to bring enough documentation that will show the CBP that you have every reason to return to Canada. For me, my occupation was the big one. Bring as much as can to show that you will return.

A six-week visit is a decently long one. The general advice I read before is that you need to be in Canada more time than in the US, the greater difference the better. I made a spreadsheet to keep track of my visits.

Ah okay thank you for your insight. Im going to visit her again in August for 3 weeks. And then was hoping to spend the holidays with her. I hope I have no issues with CBP.

I cant get a job currently because I need high flexibility to drop and go to visit my wife when needed - especially to attend medical appointments.

So im hoping car insurance, multiple canadian bank accounts, my family being here, and travel insurance, and a roundtrip booked is sufficient. i actually have multiple roundtrips booked for later in the year too. So i have intentions of coming back and going.

Another thing for you to consider when you move to Florida: if you plan to work as a nurse, you should look into getting your licensure. In California, you require either an ITIN or SSN to apply. I obtained an ITIN a year prior to my move in order to get my California license prior to moving to the US, which made it a lost easier to find work as soon as I arrived.

I definitely have looked into it and i know I need an SSN and my nursing college from Ontario needs to just confirmed I am licensed. I was also thinking for residential ties...if I renewed my 2022 nursing license for Ontario - because that was my intention anyway.

But back to what you were saying, I should look into ITIN. Is it a simple process?

Not hard. I wrote about my experience getting one before.

I obtained it by filing MFJ with my spouse. Essentially, you can get it if there’s a reason why you need to report something to the IRS. I don’t know how long it took, but when I was applying for licensure, I was quoted 8 months. You won’t get your SSN until at the earliest a week after you landed in the US and there are stories of unexpected delays. I decided to pursue the ITIN route as I awaited for my visa.

Have you tried applying for an expedite yet on grounds of your wife’s medical issues. Montreal doesn’t approve them very easily, but there have been approvals for medical reasons on the part of US citizen.

There is no harm in applying. It doesn’t cost anything, and a denial will not affect your case. The only thing is you would need to gather evidence (medical reports and such to make your case). If your presence is required often as she undergoes treatment, sounds like a strong case to me (but who knows how MTL thinks).

Best of luck, and I hope your wife gets well soon.
