Yeah my only theory rn is that K and CR/IR-1 are managed by competely different sections of the consulate since K-1 applicants have interviews registered until the end of July. It really was just our department that said 'lol frick these guys'. I could ask for more information on that.

Also if anyone wants to join the little FB chat I have going, DM me here and I'll add you to it

That would be a great question if he can answer: whether K1 and CR1/IR1 are separate workflows and one of them interviewing more applicants won't preclude the other from scheduling interviews.

I suspect "US Visas Expert Neal V" = Division Chief, Outreach and Inquiries Neal Vermillion 12.222, SA-17 2, with the DoS Office of Field Operations.

Just FYI.

By my logic, separate departments would explain the discrepancy in interview letters issuance between the two categories. I do think that interviewing any more applicants from any other category would mean reducing interviews for other categories, because it would ultimately depend on the capacity of the consulate in terms of space availability (number of interview rooms/ waiting space etc). The only way they can interview more applicants in all categories is if the COVID measures are relaxed and indoor capacity can be increased (which will likely happen in the coming months) or they start interviewing at consulates in other cities, or they build additional infrastructure.

It's possible, that for the month of June, Montreal chose to hold off on CR1/IR1 interviews to make some progress on categories that were previously neglected. This is keeping in view that they will be increasing their capacity in July/ August or some such future month, when they can schedule more interviews in a day and bring back interviews for CR1/IR1. Just speculation....

That's the problem though. It's all speculation. If they chose not to schedule IR-1/CR-1 to catch up in other areas then any communication would've gone such a long way to stop us from getting sick with stress. At least we wouldn't have to suffer the unknown and grieve in our own time- they could just tell us hey everything is out for the month see you next month. If they're different workflows, which they should be since K-1 are non-immigrant visas and they continue to insist that NV and IV are different and IV requires extensive training, then there's no reason for the cold shoulder. If they just said hey new priority tiers will affect scheduling for June, we would've all handled it much better, but they just left us hanging on. Some people are still hanging on for this month and idk how they're doing it bc I'm crushed and I'm so tired of being crushed.

It also just occurred to me.

Montreal says they cannot conduct online interviews because the applicant has to be there in person. They also say that they are unable to conduct interviews in other consulates because the staff in other consulates are not trained.

Solution - Have the applicant come in person to another consulate (Ottawa, Vancouver etc) where they identity can be verified in person. The interview can be conducted remotely through video conference while applicant is in that consulate and the interviewer can be where ever (even safe at home).

Question RE: New Priority Tiers

With K-1 and IR-1/CR-1 visas being equal priority in Tier 2, how is the workflow being managed? Are these all managed by the same department, or are they separate workflow where interviewing more applicants from one category won't preclude the other from scheduling interviews.

lol I've been saying this for so long- if USCIS confirms the validity of the relationship, NVC confirms the doucments being submitted, then theoretically if the application for a visa must be done in person to verify identity, why cant that be done at POE? Remote interview and then like a conditional acceptance pending verification at the border? But again. . .it's all speculation and I'm sure there's "a reason" for it. I just don't feel how that reason can be so unmovable during such unprecedented times.

Anyone see the video on YouTube for the 1pm session today yet? I am on the DoS channel, but don't see an upload for today's session.

I'm there too. It says it's live so maybe it'll be posted right at the time?

I really hope that's the case. The only thing that makes me unsure about this is that since 2021, they've been issuing almost 2-3x more than they did pre covid. There was a backlog then as well, obviously not as bad as right now. I just find it hard to believe that they'll schedule even more than they did in March/April, but I guess that's waaaay better than 0 😂

This livestream began as a scripted Q&A, not a venue for posing inquiries and receiving responses--but then changed.

In 2019, this was Neal Vermillion's number 202-485-7425; it may still be.
