Hi. I have a question for people who have crossed the border after VISA. Is it okay to travel outside US after your first entry to US and before you receive your physical GC?

What sort of stamp is provided at the first entry after approved.

Yes, you can travel immediately.

CBP add their usual "Admitted" stamp, with the class of CR-1 or IR-1, they may or may not add an expiry date for conditional residency if you're CR-1. They put a 1 year expiry on mine which I imagine probably means the expiry of the temporary I-551 an endorsed IV acts as.

Does anyone know whether the US border ever closed during covid to Visa holders . Just weighing the risk of crossing right away and coming back later to wrap up things

or just wrapping up and leaving one time . Wondering if delta Variant will result in another border closure

Entering with an immigrant visa is considered essential travel. Once you enter with the immigrant visa, you are a LPR and also exempted from the US land border restrictions. I don't anticipate that changing in a way that LPRs will be prevented entry to the US.

I entered using the Pacific Highway land port of entry, no issues at all.

Could you clarify your question? What kind of visa holder? And which border, land or air?

If you mean was the US land border ever closed to greencard holders during the pandemic, then no, it wasn't. And I doubt it would shut down in the future either (although noone can say with 100% certainty).

You should be good driving back and forth. Keep in mind, when you enter canada, you would need a show a negative COVID test and your vaccination status to avoid the 14 day quarantine.

To clarify my parents got IR5 visa yesterday. They have a number of things to wind down/wrap up before they can leave Canada for good . I am wondering if by waiting for couple of months there is a risk of border closure due to delta variant and they won’t be allowed to cross or May be delayed . Is it safer to come for few days to get their gc stamped and then go back to pack

The border has never closed so far for people with immigrant visas crossing for the first time to get their LPR status activated. So there is no reason to believe it should happen in the neat future. It should be fine to wait a couple of months before crossing over.

One thing to note - they must cross within 6 months of the date of their medicals, otherwise, I understand the visa expires...

My wife has her interview this month. I wonder if we should print again our pictures together as evidence? We submitted a bunch with the I-130 before. I’ve only heard of people being asked for their original civil documents. Any advice? Thank you

My understanding is unless there are red flags, usually Montreal consulate does not ask for evidence of relationship. Personally, I would carry it as a safety net, but expect only to show the civil documents.

I second this. They should have copies of everything from USCIS and I've never seen anyone ask for a copy of the proof of relationship- but at this point, I'm so terrified of AP I'm bringing everything humanly possible. I'm even bringing a copy of our lease in the USA to show proof of intended residence, extra copy of I-864, print out of the DS-260 confirmation etc...

I’m on the same boat. We have printed out copies of everything in case they ask for it. I know, we all dread the AP. Wishing everyone good luck on their interviews. My wife and I have waited 2.5 years for this moment. Thank you for the feedback! :)
