There’s Independence Day at the beginning of July though, I wonder if they will skip a week for that. It seems never ending.

Yeeeeah...given how long Sept-Oct DQ's have been waiting though, I would imagine they would look to catch up if they're serious about prioritizing US Citizen spouses, fiances and children.

So I won't show you the conspiracy theorist level connect-the-dots-with-red-tape sort of chaos I have here but, thus far in 2021, every holiday that has resulted in a shorter work week has correlated with the Montreal Consulate not scheduling anyone in our (CR-1/IR-1) for that entire week. This pattern also existed in 2020 when interviews started rescheduling and is mostly true on the 'Historical Data' in the spreadsheet. The one exception was the back-to-back short work weeks thanks to easter where they did a day on March 29 and then they didn't hold interviews again until April 7, just over a week off in total instead of two full work weeks. But still, a week. So I think my theory holds tight given this longstanding history.

With this in mind, I would expect the following:

Week of May 24 (Victoria Day) - no scheduled interviews

Week of May 31 (Patriots Day) - no scheduled interviews

Week of June 21 (St. Jean Baptiste Day) - no scheduled interviews

Week of June 28 (Canada Day) - no scheduled interviews

Week of July 5 (Independance Day) - unsure due to the holiday falling on a Sunday, but if it were a Canadian holiday they would get the Monday off. The internet seems to be calling the 5th the national holiday, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were closed on the Monday and we didn't see any interviews this week

Week of August 2 (Civic Holiday) - I'm pretty sure this isn't a national holiday on either end, but for some reason everything is closed the first monday in August as a bank holiday. Unsure if this will affect the consulate but again, not surprised if it does happen

That means, in the 14 weeks between now and the end of August the consulate will likely only be scheduling 8-10/14 weeks. This doesn't take into consideration any adjustments to staffing that need to be taken into consideration as people take their summer vacations or the fact that we don't see any IR-1 or CR-1 scheduled for June. If this stays true, we are looking at the consulate only doing interviews in our category roughly 6/14 weeks between now and summer.

I think we are in for a VERY bumpy ride and i'm really trying to mentally prepare myself but even writing this out made me feel sick.

... I think you might be right 😟 I just remembered when I spoke to the nice man at the Visa Unit regarding my rescheduling, he did say something about the consulate being closed in May. However, I thought I misheard bc he had an accent or thought he doesnt know what hes talking about because I thought to myself how can the consulate be closed if they scheduled interviews for May 12 and 13... but it seems like he could have been referring to the second part of May...😓
I also asked if its likely that I will get my interview rescheduled for June, July, or August and he said maam its very unlikely.

I honestly didnt want to repeat it in case I misheard and because I sensed the chaos that would cause on here 😖 Plus, I was like there is no way the consulate can be closed! But then I saw your predictions which basically confirm what he said.

Ahhhh the “different workflows”. I thought my job had good benefits, but it pales in comparison to getting the summer off as a CO at the Montreal Consulate.

All this makes sense. I feel like maybe I should submit an I-539 to extend my B2 visa. I got DQ’ed Oct 20, but now I feel like I’ll only get an IL in the fall...or gasp in 2022.

Has anyone submitted that request? Any suggestions?

You're not using last year's summer shutdown in your data? Because visa processing was basically dead back then thanks to Covid.

It does seem quite absurd that they're not gonna do much processing over the summer. I will say, I have a feeling they have to do a decent amount of 'prep work' for the Immigrant Visa Interviews. As in they will likely have to spend some time reviewing the DS-260, medical, I-130 evidence and so forth. My guess is that's what they do on the days of the week they don't do the IV interviews. Given the fact there *are* days that the consulate will be open in June but with no interviews scheduled, one could reasonably presume that those days will be used for that 'prep' work.

Anyways, we're just speculating at this point. I'm still debating whether to shunt my case over to London, but I don't know whether that would make the delays even worse or not.

Sadly, we're gonna be pretty much in the dark until if/when we see the interview letter data for June. We should keep the pressure on the consulate to get our cases processed though.

I remember reading that a few members here are in the US on TN. Did you enter before or after you applied for CR1? I just graduated and really want to just start my career. Is there any chance for me to successfully get a TN now? I gave up an offer a few months ago because I was under the impression that I wouldn't have been able to secure it 😕 Now that things will be even more delayed, I'd like to at least try

TN is strictly a non-immigrant intent status, so you would have to demonstrate that you would return to Canada to complete your IV processing with documentary proof. Outside of that your job offer needs to meet the requirements that TN Status has.

B extensions are not easy to come by and the bar to get one is pretty high high. Plus the waiting for it to get denied or approved are long.

Not likely to happen as you have immigrant intent and to get a TN you must show you do not have immigrant intent. Before just having as USC spouse was enough to deny it.
