Yeah she doesn't have any other citizenship, was born and raised in Toronto/Mississauga.

She went to Mohawk and is in Film/TV production.

If there are no other countries, maybe we can assume this will be resolved quickly?

Also if this is connected to the Cameroon mixup, is Cameroon one of the countries that would normally necessitate a DS-5535 form (I was reading Pakistan and Egypt are among some citizenships that can flag this form)?

Where did you read that last part? Should I be worried + is there anything I can do to prevent that? While I am Canadian and my husband is American, I also have Pakistani citizenship and he has Egyptian 😬

It's possible she has the same name as someone who is not so great. I'd be really surprised if the Cameroon mixup was the result of this as that was their mistake. It's more likely to be travel (which it sounds like shouldn't be a concern) or social media related (maybe someone with the same/a similar name is up to no good online?)

The super long delays happen when DOS has to get background checks from countries that just don't have the infrastructure in place to respond quickly. Canada is not one of those countries. Unless your wife is hiding something serious from you, I'd expect this to be resolved within a matter of weeks, maybe 3 months depending on how busy they are.

Thank you for this response, you have no idea how much better reading this made me feel.  I feel lost and like my vision is clouded, so having an outside perspective is great and that's what makes this forum so great.

I'm going to guess it's either some horrible oversight or I think your theory about her name or social handle being related to someone who's not so good is what's triggering this.  I should know given how long everything else has taken that it won't get resolved as quickly as we're hoping, but still holding onto next week.  They took her passport so that has to prompt some *quick* response right?

I'm so sorry, don't trust me at all on this, I'm emotional and not a reliable source of info.  But how I got there is that I searched VisaJourney for the form "DS-5535" and I found a larger thread that mentioned those 2 countries specifically, but again I don't know what I'm talking about, so take this with a grain of salt.  I hope things work out for you guys and you don't experience this situation

No worries at all! Thank you for the heads up, I'll look into it more. I'm really hoping your case is resolved soon and that it was just a mistake on their end. Best of luck, keep us updated.

I thought this form was revoked after the new admisitration took over. ?? it should be expired by now. it was started back in 2017. and suppose to be 6 month and extend for 3 year, so it should be over by now.

Well the officer started asking questions immediately so I didn't offer anymore information than what was being asked in the moment, and then he brought up the refusal.

Yes when I went to the border they pulled me into secondary and ended up giving me the paper that said "application voluntarily withdrawn".

Not guaranteed, but based off @State and Maine and my scenario I would assume it's a safe assumption that you will be. I will update when I get mine issued as well!

Did your printed paper look like this?

Just like DGF mentioned it could be her name matches someone else and they need to dig deeper. It could be over quick but really with AP one never really knows. One thing for sure if it is a mix up you want them to figure it out the right way.

I agree with you. It's quite a possibility. Anyways I hope you get DQ'd soon. Don't worry you'll get there.

For me personally, I'm already mentally prepared now for IL next year considering the backlog . Anything faster than that is a treat :)

@From_CAN_2_US & @alphabetagamma I was surprised yesterday afternoon as I was checking my emails and found email from NVC having the subject "Notice regarding your Immigrant Visa Case becoming Documentarily Qualified". I didn't expect it this week and thought will get it next week. Now the looooooonnnngggg final step awwwwwaaaittttttt.. :dancing::dance:

Yaayyy! Congratulations 😁

It’s such a relief to be in DQ. As much as the wait for interview is excruciating, at least it’s just that - a wait... no worry about any forms or documents being accepted.

Hope things get better with Montreal and they don’t make us wait too long for the final step...

Fingers crossed it goes well. I have been in the US since the start of June and am leaving at the start of September. All the border agent asked me this time was what I was doing and how long I was staying.

it was a breeze!
last time they asked how I supported myself and what my ties were.
I brought with me I June just in case they asked: a letter from my daughters surgeon starting the date of her follow up, and also my info packet my for shoulder surgery in September and my dental appointments for september

It went well! Passing through US Customs At Pearson with no employment or ownership of a home/vehicle/dependents as ties to Canada. I just went through customs. Although I was nervous when the agent starting questioning my employment.

She first asked where I am going and how long.

Then asked what I do for work.

Me: "i am a nurse"

Agent: " what kind"

Me: "general medicine"

Agent: "are you still employed"

Me: "no" . Then proceed to briefly explain it is due to health reasons of my wife and that of myself.

She then just asked why my wife doesnt visit me in Canada and I responded with "due to her health and the past/current covid restrictions".

Although my most intimidating customs experience yet, I was cleared and am now on route to my wife!

My husband started a new job in April this year after we DQ I submitted a new I-184 and it did not change our DQ date. I had my interview Wednesday and passed it

Hello,

My wife is the petitioner and she got a job in JAN of this year. Her incomes for the last 3 years weren't enough so her brother (Household member) helped to sponsor me. Would you still suggest me to update the I-864 of my wife's new job and reupload or I can do it verbally at the interview if they ask what is my wife do for living?

thanks

Its up to you. I personally would, since i wouldn't want to risk being put into administrative processing. It will not change your being DQ'd.
