Just upload new I-864 and supporting documents. And make sure to submit it. It will not change you DQ date.

One can only do this after an interview is scheduled right?

I have personal experience. You are welcome to call NVC to confirm it.

My husband started a new job in April this year after we DQ I submitted a new I-184 and it did not change our DQ date. I had my interview Wednesday and passed it

Once you are DQ you are DQ!!!  what we did is any new documents that came up I uploaded and submitted. I actually ended up uploading and submitting 3 times after DQ. Before interview scheduled.

Thankyou. My husband changed jobs after we DQ'd as well, and his salary has changed. So I suppose, we will have to resubmit as well. Thanks for the heads up. We will do it closer to the interview date, as he would probably file 2021 taxes before we interview and that will be the latest document.

Thank you for the quick reply. Are you certain it wont change our DQ date? I would hate to submit it and find out differently. We have been waiting sooo long!! Also I have been unable to find any written info on this subject online. Do you have a link that would confirm this? Thanks so much.

We did this the other night, it doesn't.

Hi all,

My wife had her interview this morning and was told she was approved by the officer and her passport was taken, and it was overall a painless experience for her.

However our celebration was short-lived because about an hour later she received an email "SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS FOR VISA APPLICANT"/ DS-5535

We filled out the form to the best of our ability and sent back within 2 hours.  Are we likely to incur delays?  The status is now "Refused" and to say we're devastated is an understatement

A U.S. consular officer has adjudicated and refused your visa application. Please follow any instructions provided by the consular officer. If you were informed by the consular officer that your case was refused for administrative processing, your case will remain refused while undergoing such processing. You will receive another adjudication once such processing is complete. Please be advised that the processing time varies and that you will be contacted if additional information is needed.

A similar thing happened to my friend's grandma earlier this year. She was told by the consulate officer she was approved, but then she wasn't. But once she completed the additional requirements, they reassessed her case and approved her. It's the same as being put in AP. It just sucks when it seems like they changed their minds. Gets your hopes up.

Thank you for your reply.  Yeah I have no idea why my wife's case triggered the change of status, I'm really hoping this clears up soon.  She's a Canadian citizen that's lived in Toronto her whole life, the only trip out of North America in 5 years was 5 years ago to Malta for a summer vacation, neither of us have criminal records, etc

However when we did try to expedite our case a few months ago, the officer mistakenly thought her case was from Cameroon (the country directly above Canada in a drop-down list) so I wonder if that's related.

Do you know how much longer your friend's grandma's case was delayed as a result of this?

Does your wife have any other citizenship? It seems odd for a Canadian citizen to be issued DS-5535 as usually that's issued to countries where the US has security concerns, or people that are security concerns. It sounds like there may have been an error in your case somewhere which may have connected your wife to Cameroon that could have triggered it (maybe they think she's a Canadian-Cameroonian dual citizen)?

Yeah I think they must mistakenly think she's dual, but she's not.  We have literally no connection to Cameroon (mom born in Hamilton, dad from Italy, of Italian descent)

My hope is that anyone looking at her passport or case file will see there's no issue, but I doubt anything gets resolved on a Friday.  I just hope this doesn't put us into an 'eternally waiting' black hole

It is odd,  does you wife have another citizenship or was born elsewhere?

Also what type of schooling and work does she have/do?

The form is an additional security check so not your normal AP. It can take much longer depending on if they are dealing with other countries.

Yeah she doesn't have any other citizenship, was born and raised in Toronto/Mississauga.

She went to Mohawk and is in Film/TV production.

If there are no other countries, maybe we can assume this will be resolved quickly?

Also if this is connected to the Cameroon mixup, is Cameroon one of the countries that would normally necessitate a DS-5535 form (I was reading Pakistan and Egypt are among some citizenships that can flag this form)?

Not for sure. Maybe a couple months? But she was missing some vaccinations that the doctor didn't mention during the medical. So that was taken care of and the results sent to the consulate before it was resolved. She also was a Canadian citizen her whole life.

As others have said, your wife's case does sound like more of an error, so hopefully it'll be resolved sooner.

It's possible she has the same name as someone who is not so great. I'd be really surprised if the Cameroon mixup was the result of this as that was their mistake. It's more likely to be travel (which it sounds like shouldn't be a concern) or social media related (maybe someone with the same/a similar name is up to no good online?)

The super long delays happen when DOS has to get background checks from countries that just don't have the infrastructure in place to respond quickly. Canada is not one of those countries. Unless your wife is hiding something serious from you, I'd expect this to be resolved within a matter of weeks, maybe 3 months depending on how busy they are.
