It took us over 3 months and we applied after my wife got her green card. It seems that the USCIS did not update their computers to reflect her new name and we had to wait the minimum of 60 days before we could begin to complain about the slow process. That was also California.

I applied right after marriage. I called DMV Sacramento HQ twice, on my first call the agent told me I have to calll again 60 days after receipt date, and when I did, I found out that they verified my legal presence here in the US from USCIS--and the DMV supervisor told me that they cannot issue the CA ID since in the USCIS database there is no record (yet) of my married name or legal status. They were apologetic since I should have been notified by mail.

They would see me when I have the physical card, the GC. They cannot accept the NOAs for AOS, I verified too.

Edit: I forgot to add, with the bank accounts (3 banks), the CA ID may help but SSN is what was really asked from me. I told the bankers the CA ID was pending (at the time) and showed them the DMV receipt, they did not photocopy it, they asl for my foreign driver's license instead.

Thanks for the Update... I guess i will tell my wife not to wait. We just head to the bank and add her name to my account. I guess it was a wasted of 22 bux and time .

Are you talking about a state ID, like the one you get at the DMV? I live in Illinois and just got my state ID today. I applied, got pics taken, and left with my state ID. It took me 20 minutes.

I don't understand what AOS has to do with obtaining a state ID - maybe I am not understanding or something?

I am absolutely confused as to why you are all having problems getting state IDs. I got mine today - they asked to see my passport, SSN, marriage certificate, and that was it. I was in and out of there within 20 minutes. No one checked to see anything if I was legal or whatever. I was asked if I ever had a state ID before and I told them no. They asked if I wanted to be a donor and if I am going to vote for president. I said I am not allowed to vote, not a US citizen. Then they sent me to get my pic taken and that was it. I'm lost as to why you guys cannot get an ID.

The OP posted it at the AOS forum and I believe was simply sharing the progress of his wife's AOS journey but the CA ID has nothing to do with AOS. And DMV requirements and flexibility in acceptance of these requirements varies from state to state. Apparently we responded to the OP based on what we experienced & because we are share a common state.
