I'm the petitioner.  I want my husband's last name. I didn't yet file for the name change, and I've seen people ask the question but its usually about the beneficiary.... I was in a hurry to get things filed, and at the time since my passport is only a couple years old, and my work email has my maiden name, it just didn't make sense to do that at the time.

Today I found out the company I work for is closing. If I end up in a new office job where my name is part of the email, I dont want to be stuck with my maiden name forever. I'm very employable, so I'm not worried about finding work in this market, but we have already gotten the noa1, and I do not want to delay it unnecessarily.

1. Is it going to be a huge problem to change my name in the middle of noa1 to noa2?

2. I found out that in Italy its not actually common to take the husband's last name, but its something I've always wanted to do, and my husband thinks its cute but weird. So in registering my marriage with the Italian government,  would I need to update my last name on my marriage certificate first? Or is that where it not yet being changed on my passport would be a problem? Passports are taking a long time right now, and if I win the lotto and can go see him again, I want to. Lololol (Also, was planning a trip for new year's,  and not sure if my new passport would be here by then or not...)

Does anyone have advice for either of these two issues/problems? :)

Where did you get married?  Here in Washington, there is no process for a marriage-related name change, except to begin using the new name, with the marriage certificate as evidence.

I petitioned my now-husband (we did a K-1 however, and married on Whidbey). I took his last name.  Still haven't changed it on my passport or DL.  I did change it with social security and the State Board of Nursing for my RN license, as well as with my employer.  I just carry a copy of the marriage certificate.

On the marriage certificate is your current maiden name.  You have to do the same thing as everyone else that is a beneficiary changing their name.  You need marriage certificate to take to SSA office, and to change passport, driver's license.  That is the legal document used to allow the name change.

We got married in Utah while next to each other in Rome.😃

To marry in Italy by the Italian government, it would have been 800 dollars more expensive and we would have also needed a translator (another $150...) because my level of Italian is "I can hear and follow along to what you said, (mostly) but I can't respond." And, I think I will have to check with the Italian government as to what to do about my last name in regards to registering it with Italy. Our eventual plan is to both be dual citizens of each others countries, so as time passes, we can decide which to stick around in when we are old and decrepit.

And, the US embassy wouldn't have let me get in to sign the Nulla Osta until after I had been in the country for 14 days... AND then we would have had to wait a minimum of 8 more due to the banns, which would have put me away from my full time job and two kids for 22 days... and, who wants to get married and then leave? lol

I couldn't have logistically stayed away from "home" any longer than I did. We chose the CR1 route as though the K1 is feasible, it would have been a tight budget and my husband wasn't keen on living off of me for however long it took to complete AOS - and fairly, his parents are quite old and keep having minor health issues, so being stuck here and unable to leave in an emergency (yes I know there is a way, but that is a pain in the rear too) would have destroyed him on the inside. As with many Italian families, they are very close. I do understand the process and rules for my name change here in the US, but I didn't put my married name on my i-130 (in retrospect, I was being too crazy about being very careful to make sure everything was there and fully correct as of that moment...) and I kind of think that changing it now is alright, but don't want to do in between noa2 and nvc or in between nvc and his interview. My work email was permanently assigned the way it was, and I have too many clients that would have forgotten, then would have started complaining that I wasn't answering them.... I do think that I will likely end up in some new customer service or office type position, and I tend to stay with jobs for a long time, so I just don't want to get stuck with my maiden name for any of that.

Thank you for your answers! :)

Not an issue.  Just make sure to use your new legal name on all future forms (I-864, DS-260).

That's also the major reason we chose the CR1 route.  Although applying for AP travel permit is possible, just the anxiety from the risk of not getting AP in time if there's a family emergency would have turned us both into emotional wrecks.  We don't want that kind of stress in our life, so the spouse visa was really the only choice for us.
