I already got  my son US PASSPORT through my naturalization. I'm ready now to apply my minor son for his N-600 but I lost his GRREN CARD -(physical card) and I can't find it. Although I have photo copy of it. Anybody here with the same situation? Do I need the GREEN CARD to apply his N-600?

TIA

I dont think you need a valid physical green card on hand to apply. I am sure that the petition wont be rejected on the basis of not being able to produce the green card. Write a covering letter stating that you have lost the physical card and provide the photo copy of it in that letter.

I know that this is true for N400 at least.

Thank you ImmiGeek. I'll make sure to send them an explanation about it. I don't want to get the green card just to show them for applying N-600 and pay $$$ not unless if my son will use it for a long time.

He already has a PP. What is the need for N600? I think it is just a waste of $1170

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Greetings!

If you read the instructions for N-600 on page 9 #10. " What evidence must you submit?". It is clear that it only asks for a copy , read below.

" 10. Copy of Permanent Resident Card or Other Evidence of Permanent Resident Status (only required if you are claiming U.S. citizenship after birth through a U.S. citizen parent)".

I hope it helps. NG

When i applied for passport for my son  through my naturalization I had to give the original greencard of his as part of application. I dont know whether they will return it back along with passport. I dont think so.

Maybe you havent lost it - you just gave it way as part of his passport application.

You might enjoy https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/20p3g3/not_accepting_a_us_passport_as_proof_of

which  explains that some US government employers  can legally reject a US passport as proof of US citizenship.

Also review sections 9 snd 9.3 of form SF-86 (Questionnaire for National Security Positions).
