Need Help Before Starting K1 Visa Application

Hello All,

I finally got my US citizenship and I'm very excited to apply for a K1 visa for my fiancĂ©Â đŸ˜Š. I've been reading the guides on this site and they were very helpful, but i still have a few questions. A little background first...

Me and my fiancé  have been in a relationship for 9 years, way back when i was still living in the Philippines. Our family moved to the United States 5 years ago and we've been in a long distance relationship ever since. I was able to visit her back in May 2019, and was planning to come back in 2020 to formally engage to her. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic happened and i wasn't able to meet her in 2020. Also, i left my job around January to continue school, but i have relatives that are willing to sponsor the application since they also want her here as soon as possible. I have more than enough cash to shoulder the costs of the visa application, and i'm expecting to be employed by the end of 2022. Given these, here are some things i need to clarify:

- Is meeting in person within the past 2 years an ABSOLUTE requirement? It's been more than 2 years since i last visited her although we have plenty of photo evidence and letters proving our relationship way back 2012.

- Is it necessary to provide proof that you were engaged? (Photo of engagement ring etc.)

- Should i have a certain amount of money in my bank account to be approved?

If you have other advice let me know too....Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yes. It is the principal requirement to be approved. They’re not concerned with how long you’ve been in a relationship. Your application will certainly be denied if you haven’t met within the last 2 years.

No

No

I would think long and hard before you decide to apply for a K1 for Philippines. They haven’t processed routine K1s from March 2020 and the backlog will possibly take a few years to clear at this point. You should take a look at this:

Since you are not eligible to file an I-129F petition for her, you should just try to get married instead.

I'm going to assume you are either a dual PH-US citizen now, or that you are a former PH citizen. If correct, then you have a luxury that many Filipino-American couples do not have: you can actually enter the Philippines to see your fiancée right now.

Thousands of other couples have been separated for months or even years now.

Browse this site, do some research on the benefits of the spousal visa vs the fiance visa, look at the backlog that @powerpuff
shared, and plan accordingly.

Good luck!
