Fearmongering just isn't my cup of tea.
Mine neither. I have no fear that this country would be just fine if they were sent on their way home to get in line if they want to migrate here. ;)
that is cool. but what if they are already home? say wisconsin/califrnia/new york/florida/texas/etc ... ?
If that's home, then they're not illegal. Different topic.

Taking up illegal residence does not entitle one to call that residence home.

oh, so now you are the decider-er too? since when did you get to determine what is home for any specific individual? pretty nifty of you there fella.

Got an experiment for you: Move into your neighbors house just because you want to. Then tell your neighbor that this is now your home. Report back with the results. Thanks.

thanks. but i like my house better. ;)

how about you read up on human migration. start with the caveman.

Nonsense. The caveman has long since passed - well, except for the few that work the Geico ads.

Suggest you read up on US immigration law. ;)

Since you seem to believe that the caveman migration still has validity today, why did you go through all the trouble bringing your wife here fair and square? Seems to me that you should have just brought her across handing the guard at the border a book on caveman migration patterns in lieu of a visa. The point being that the history of human migration simply lacks relevance in the discussion at hand. Your obtaining a visa for your wife's migration shows that you are well aware of that. ;)

FYI, the pro-illegal crowd, as you call it, is enjoying that her fiancé is home and not working in Texas. Sorry to disappoint. I expect I'll post less as C. is around more.

But anyhow. Melting pot is a great idea, fearmongering on the basis that the brown Mexicans are going to overtake the white Protestant America blonde cheerleaders and make them celebrate Cinco de Mayo isn't. If you want people to assimilate, give them a path to legality. If you like your de facto apartheid situation, keep insisting on impossible solutions.

Because the reason my Italian, uneducated grandfather assimilated is that he was legal. Take away the ability for his daughter to get a job or go to school, and I'm pretty sure I'm waiting tables at the bodega. If you honestly want assimilation, you want a path to legal status

You can look at the writings of our Founding Fathers all you like, but the best place to look for what matters is the Constitution.

And nowhere in it is there anything about the government having authority to close borders.

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

...

[The Congress shall have power to ] make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers...

I'm no lawyer but it sounds like if they can demonstrate that it's both necessary and proper to shut down the border for the common defense and general welfare of the United States, that the Constitution does allow them to do so.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

There are various paths to legal status. Sneaking across the border isn't one of them.

It's the "if they can demonstrate" part that is always up for debate then, correct? "Ifs" get hashed out in case law. I'm speaking strictly of constitutional powers.

LOL....you're good Reinhard. That's one of the things I like about you.

You're right, no one else brought it up. But it's one of the issues with immigration, is it not?

The Constitution speaks to the Federal Government being given the power to 'naturalize' - a bit more on that here -

despite all them illegal immigrants, the us of a is still the strongest nation on earth.

Patriotic nonesense. USA might be the big bully of the World, but if you want to look at the "Strongest Nation on Earth" look towards the country that owns most of our national debt: China.
