We were both raised Catholic... and having the same beliefs were extremely important to me in having a successful marriage. I don't think she necessarily had to be Catholic or even Christian, but that her core values were compatible with mine. I wanted that strong foundation - marriage is a difficult endeavor under the best of circumstances. It's nice to have someone to share my faith with. :star:

I"m Catholic and he's Atheist. I wouldn't care if he worshiped the Flying Spaghetti Monster or Satan. What matters to me is what I believe.

We talk about it, I talk with lots of people about religion sometimes, more for getting a better understanding of other religions or even a better understanding of the person. It's never a MY RELIGION IS BETTER THAN YOURS kind of thing. My faith is strong enough that it will never be swayed by anything.

I hate zealots though, if he were to fight me about the existence of God or even if he were religious and tried to change what I already believe, I wouldn't have stayed. No one can change what I believe and if someone tried, they are ignored. Religion is a personal matter should be for the individual to figure out.

My husband and I share the same religion. Neither of us are religious so to speak but it was important to both of us to marry someone from the same religion. I wouldn't have married someone who wasn't Muslim and neither would he. My children (from a previous marriage) are Muslim so that made it even more necessary to marry someone of this faith. Neither of us converted upon meeting each other.

My husband and I really don't fall under categories when it comes to religion. He'll often call himself 'athiest' and I call myself 'agnostic', but that's mostly because it's easier than trying to explain things to people. We've discussed religion, and our own beliefs, and we both enjoy learning about new religions and seeing how other people view things. We both have similar beliefs, but they aren't exactly the same. For the most part, we're non-religious, as in we don't attend any ceremonies or anything of a religious nature unless it's for a relative.

Sometimes I find it easier to say that I believe in the good of all religions and the bad of none.

I used to say I was Agnostic as it was easier for some to accept without a lengthy explanation.

Now I would rather say I am an Atheist, however, it seems to me that most people do not understand what that really means.

Not believing in a god does not automatically make you an Atheist. If you do not believe in a god and you do not follow the beliefs of Atheism then you are “Not Religious”.
