As a K3 visa holder you can file for EAD before you file for AOS.... and yes it is valid for the same length of time as your K3.... it still takes 70 - 90 days to be approved but it does mean that you can then get a SSN, drivers license or state ID...

I'm filing both at the same time because fees more than double on july 30th. If you file for the EAD alone now you'll have to wait for the receipt notice then file for AOS. With my luck and getting receipts lately I know I'll receive my notice on July 31st. 500 bucks is a lot of money to save.

I put (a)(9) as the answer to question 16 and just sent it in by itself and not with the 485 I assume that is acceptable.
