Hello everyone,

Please I am here again to seek your knowledge after my fiance told me that co-sponsor is not allowed for Nigerians any longer. He said an attorney mentioned it in his video on YouTube.  Please is that a correct info? I don't have where to verify except here.

Thanks for your support.

I'm also $39k and self employed.  I have 4 children (2 claimed on my taxes) and I'm bringing 2 new ones Ifiance and child).  They approved that, however I was instead denied because of a misdemeanor (not AWA) from 15 years ago.  Anyways, so for me it was no issue as I'm above the requirements (I think I only needed like $32k to k1, and then I need $38k to I-485).  Unless you have a large family you should be fine.

Also, I am 99.999% confident they are WRONG.  It is highly unlikely a law like that would exclude a specific country.

Don't know the answer but how big is your household? Cause with $39k you're in the clear for a household of two.

We have 6 children between us.  One only lives with me, the other two with my ex. We are not bringing the children with him yet. So wondering how they calculate the income.

So sorry about the denial. It must really hurt. I hope everything works out well for you.

I claim only one child on my taxes. The other two reside with my ex. He has three but they are not coming over just yet. So I was wondering if they are gonna base my income on the total number of children or just the three of us (myself, son and fiance) during the interview

● First find out if the US Embassy for your fiance’s country accepts joint sponsors because not all Embassies allow joint sponsor. You can email the US embassy or simply check their website.

and some do not allow joint sponsors so ask them

https://ng.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/affidavit-of-support/

at this time the Lagos embasy still posts on their site about joint sponsors the following :

If the petitioner earns less than the required minimum for their household size, they must find a joint sponsor who agrees to help support the beneficiar(ies) if necessary. The joint sponsor must also complete and sign an original Affidavit of Support and provide their most recent tax return. The joint sponsor should also submit proof of his/her legal status such as a copy of his/her U.S. Birth Certificate, U.S. Passport, Naturalization Certificate, or Lawful Permanent Resident Card.

You are incorrect.  The acceptance of a joint/co-sponsor is not "law."  It is discretionary by CO/consulate.   Manila doesn't accept them, for example.
