Utilities- note from the landlord

This is true. I have said many times. In the eyes of USCIS, not all humans were created equal. It is unfortunate but true. 

Argentina and Malaysia still participate in the diversity visa lottery. That is as low fraud as you can get.

The DV lottery countries of eligibility has nothing to do with fraud data.

OP, since the whole point of submitting utility bills is to show joint expenses and a shared address, you must have other ways of doing this?   A water bill holds no more weight than a credit card statement.

I would scrap the utilities letter from your landlord - but not because you already have great evidence (because you do!).

 

In my opinion, I think the letter opens up a LOT of questions.  In the first place, your lease states that YOU will be responsible for the utilities.  So why is your landlord paying for them?  Is your landlord a friend, or is s/he related to you in some manner?  Was your credit so bad that the utility companies were giving you a hassle?  Was your landlord scared that you would not pay them and so hurt his/her reputation?

 

You see, NONE of the above are true.  But, I think you leave yourself wide open for questions if you submit the letter as it is.

 

You have enough.  Don't worry about it.

Right, the answer to all those questions is negative. He’s paying them… I don’t know why, really. The lease says that we’re responsible for them though. I don’t know, maybe when they see our case they’ll wonder why we haven’t submitted any utilities?

@ra0010if I remember correctly, you submitted the note from your landlord for your AOS. It did not cause any issues then. Why would it cause issues now?

Yep, he’s my sponsor so he’ll have to do it too. Let me see if I got this straight： I file AR-11 and he (who was also my sponsor) needs to file for a change of address too, right?

Form I-865 to be exact: https://www.uscis.gov/i-865 "Where to File" I.e. his cannot be done online per 8 CFR § 213a.3

Sometimes landlords pay for utilities not because they want to, but because they have no other option 😁

 

We have been living in a small studio that was sold to new owner recently, and for us utilities have always been included in the rent. This is because of the shoddy/cheap work that was done long before we moved in. Our unit was converted from a garage to an ADU. Basically the meters were/are not separated so there is no way of knowing how much electricity each tenant is using. Now at least the new owners are trying to get an electrician there to fix the mess 😂

So I want to set this straight: our lease says that the tenants are responsible for paying utilities, but our landlord pays for them. 
This weekend we’re moving to our own house and we’ll have plenty of utilities to show; but that won’t be the case for 2018- august 2021. Do you think that it will be an issue?

BTW, we have JUST signed or deed for the new home!! Yayyyy!!! So we’ll have that for sure! I just want to know if the discrepancy between the lease and the utilities will be a problem.

It will not be a problem.  You have plenty of other evidence.
