Does having met only once matter?

Hi everyone!

Me and my bf have almost finished putting together our I-129F petition, and I just have a few thoughts come up that I wanna clarify.

Does only meeting once matter? I spent 80 days with him from March to May this year. We've known each other for 13 years and obviously New Zealand (where I'm from) having mandatory government isolation makes further meeting almost impossible. Does this matter? I know the criteria is to have met at least ONCE in the last 2 years, but I just was wondering if it looked bad if you've only met once. I guess it depends on the circumstances.

Also as a supplementary document to question 54 about the circumstances of meeting, should I include a one-page letter describing how we 'met' online and how our relationship came to be? I read another thread on here where people had said it's not necessary cos that's not what they're asking for, but, it just feels kinda strange not including anything in the petition about how our relationship even exists haha. I know the proof of relationship stuff is more for the interview and later parts of this, so maybe I'm just being paranoid!

Let me know! :)

As it relates to circumstances of meeting,  look at the size of the space provided on the form for your response.  This indicates how long they expect your response to be.

YMMV

80 days is longer that many people have spent together before filing for k1. Its not a problem. Also NZ would be a low fraud country, a rich developed country - the incentive for a kiwi to perpetuate a fraud to get to the US is much lower than for some other parts of the world. So long as you have reasonable documentation to show you've met within the 2 years you'll be fine.

In terms of first meeting - we just included a brief paragraph within the form where it asked how we met (ie location - bar, dates, circumstances). I honestly don't think they are that bothered about the details, just a basic idea (was it in person, or on the internet, was it a dating site where you're specifically looking for someone, etc). We tried to keep our application as concise as possible - make it easy for the person working on it to find the important and required documents, so we chose not to overload with chat logs and other documents that weren't asked for. Good luck!

You have nothing to worry about.   Auckland is not a difficult consulate.
