i asked not answered yet

and i asked all the hard red flag questions /  not answered yet

anyone going thru this process needs to know the ups and downs instead of just thinking "i am a USC and can get a visa if i apply" not don't realize there is no guarantee of a visa

To OP if you want to be together faster than the US visa takes,  go to live with him

Unfortunately, I can't leave my job or my 2 sons to go live in South Africa.

Was this your first time seeing him actually face to face?, or have you been there before visiting him?

First time face to face, but video chatted for 7 months daily prior. Already planning to go back in January with 1 of my sons, for 2 weeks.

A few people have asked whether he is legally resident in SA but I have not seen an answer, maybe I missed it

Yes, he is.

so,  you married on the 1st visit which is a red flag i forgot to mention

you need more time together to overcome this red flag along with other ones you may have

Ok, thanks. Understood

It was unexpected. He formally proposed whole I was there and then we decided to make it official before I would leave.

Wow, this is very helpful information.  It's alot of stuff to do, but I know in the end it will be worth it. So I also read that it's helpful to send documentation of joint bank accounts, insurance, lease agreements, etc. But, since he lives in South Africa and I live in the U.S. , we can't do a joint bank account nor lease agreement. Also, I can add him to my health insurance, but it doesn't have international coverage. So how do you deal with the "joint evidence", in this case?

Sorry, 1 more question. The I-130  says to submit a recent "passport style " photo of us both. But then I got confused when it said (only if non citizen is in the U.S), bit then it didn't state that in the checklist. Does he need to mail me 1?

it is not unusual to USCIS as they see it happen many times from his country for shopping for a green card

you only know him online for a few months and  and then marry at first site

Please don't think I'm being mean, but video chatting is not the same,    you can be 2 people,  #1  a charmer on the video and #2  a real monster real face to face.  Keep eyes open and follow your head, not your heart.

I do wish you the best.

Thank you. I appreciate that. I was skeptical 1st, but to be honest, I couldn't be happier. We video chatted almost daily for 7 months. Then We spent 11 days straight together, 24 hours and it felt like we have known each other for years. He offered for me to move there, but just isn't feasible for me.

Maybe he doesn’t know that a permanent resident spouse visa in SA requires you to have been married for 5 years.

Wow, that is interesting.....
