Hello everyone,

I have an oath taking ceremony in about 25 days after passing my in interview in New York. I cannot make it to the oath taking ceremony as I had to leave the country on emergency and wont be back until mid October. That is almost more than 2.5 to 3 months. On the notice they sent regarding the appointment letter, it says if I cant make it for reasons other than relating to covid 19, "return this notice  immediately with a written explanation on why you cannot attend to the office with jurisdiction over your naturalization case. To find the correct office with jurisdiction over your naturalization case, visit the following website for more info.... you will then receive an appointment for a ceremony at a later date." So, do I have to physically be present at the office to submit the notice and letter? I am not in USA and wont be back for a while, I hope we can mail it. Also, the letter they want us to write, does it need to be handwritten or can it be typed? Any help would be appreciated.

You must mail it and it can be type written. Send it registered mail and make a copy for your files. You better rush it because I have seen cases where the letter was not received by the right department in time.

I just did my oath ceremony this week and four peoples name were called who were not there. So what happened d I do not know but it seemed unbelievable that they were no shows.

good luck!
